Hump Day Happenings
Issue 3 ~ 9/6 thru 9/12
Bye-Bye Summer... Hello Routines
There will be 3 sessions for those families with multiple children at different grade levels.
Sessions times are as follows:
Session 1: 5p - 5:20p
Session 2: 5:30p - 5:50p
Session 3: 6p - 6:20p
The grade level information is the same for each session. Plan to attend the time that is most convenient for you. We do recommend keeping the kiddos at home if possible. This will allow you and the teachers to focus on the information being shared with minimum distractions.

Details
This is an informal program to introduce young children to the basics of soccer during several one-hour sessions on Friday evenings. The program will include skill building exercises, running, games and short-sided scrimmages. The program will start on Friday, September 8th and continue through Friday, October 20th. Parents are encouraged to stay at the field to observe the activities, assist as needed, and socialize with other Kindergarten parents.
Kilgour School has a wonderful soccer program affiliated with the Soccer Association for Youth (SAY); however, Kindergarteners do not start participation in the SAY program until the Spring season, so this introduction is intended to get children ready for SAY soccer. This program is not affiliated with SAY Soccer.
The main emphasis is to have FUN. The idea of the program is to give children a love for an organized athletic activity. In addition, we help them to learn to respect coaches and referees. Although soccer can be quite competitive, this program is not. There will not be games against other schools. The goal is to be able to play a full field scrimmage by the last day. We will not keep score.
Volunteers Needed!
We also need parent volunteers to help. The Kindergarten Soccer program is parent run and cannot happen without your help. You do not have to have any coaching experience. Volunteer activities include running drill stations, field set up and prep, and organizing the drills. Additionally, we are looking for someone who would be willing to manage the overall Friday night sessions. In coaching, as with parenting, the program advocates motivating with positive reinforcement when children do well. Please look for positive things to discuss with your child about the program.
Gear
Your young athlete will need a size-3 soccer ball, shin guards and athletic shoes to participate. The shin guards should be covered with socks. Soccer cleats are not required at this age. This year we will be providing your child with a Kilgour soccer shirt they will be expected to wear for each Friday night session so we can equally divide the kids in separate groups. Please indicate the shirt size for your child when you register. Children cannot participate if they have casts or are wearing jewelry.

aS THE SEASONS CHANGE... tOO SICK FOR SCHOOL GUIDELINES
Too Sick for School
Guidelines for Keeping Students Home from School Due to Illness
Keep your child home from school if:
1. If your child has had one of the below symptoms, we request they be free of those symptoms for at least 24 hours without the use of medications before they return.
a. Temperature of 100.4 or higher
b. Vomiting
c. Diarrhea
2. If your child has a respiratory illness, it’s important to have them evaluated for flu and COVID-19.
3. If your child has symptoms of a fever, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, or difficulty swallowing food or water, it is recommended your child be evaluated for strep throat. Treating strep can reduce your child’s duration of illness, relieve symptoms and prevent complications. If your child is being treated for strep throat, we request your child be on antibiotics for 24 hours and bring a note from a provider before coming back to school.
4. If your child is diagnosed with ringworm, scabies, pink eye, or other highly contagious illness, we recommend consulting with the student’s medical provider for return to school guidance.
Communicable Diseases
The school may send a student home if it appears that they may have a contagious illness. The parent may be asked to provide a doctor’s note indicating the symptoms have been evaluated before the student is allowed to return to school. The Ohio Department of Health Communicable Disease Chart serves as the guidelines for determining recommendations for the student. Please refer to the Cincinnati Public Schools Communicable Disease Response Plan for more information.
In some instances, the Guidelines for Keeping Students Home listed above are modified to prevent or contain an illness outbreak in a school.
Please call your doctor or school nurse if you have any questions or concerns, or if your child does not seem to be getting better.

Meet Bobbi Kimble, RN Kilgour's School Nurse
Hello and welcome back my wonderful Kilgour families!!!!
I am Nurse Bobbi, your FAVORITE school nurse (I’ll try not to brag too much). I am a Registered Nurse with the City of Cincinnati Health Department. Initially, I was sent to be a temporary school nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic, but my love for the children grew more and more each day, so I decided to remain at Kilgour. I am now going into my 4th school year at Kilgour and I am so honored to be here.
I am a mother to a now teenage son, so I can relate to the importance of caring for your child.
Throughout the school year, I am here to assess the basic health needs of students. This includes basic first aid, medication administration, standard immunizations, by appointment only (excludes COVID vaccines). If your child has any acute/chronic illnesses and requires prescribed/emergency medication please call me to discuss the necessary needs.
CPS no longer has a protocol for COVID-19. For any questions regarding COVID-19, we advise
that you to call your medical provider on when/how to return. Please, encourage your child to practice good hygiene habits and to stay hydrated (especially during the warmer months).
Know that I am ALWAYS here for you and your child and I am always willing to help in any way
that I can. I look forward to meeting the new families and reuniting with the old. Let’s make this a fun, safe and healthy year!
Thank you for trusting me with your child!
