The Wonderful World of Woodbury
Weekly Update for Families 8/21/22
A Message from Mrs. Kern
Ummm...hello great first few days! We had so much fun welcoming our students back! Even the morning thunderstorm on Thursday didn't get to us! Our students picked up right where they left off with routines and procedures, showing us they knew how to line up and navigate our hallways to head to their classrooms the first day. We enjoyed the many smiling faces, every hug and to see our parents and guardians too!
This upcoming week we have curriculum night on Tuesday for grades 1-3 (see details below) and our first book fair of the year. Teachers have been working throughout this week to connect with parents/guardians and share their modes of communication so please be sure to check your email and/or download apps like Classroom Dojo if you received that information. We don't want to miss out on the happenings in your child's classroom.
We are looking forward to a great first full week!
Drop off and Pick Up
At arrival from 7:45-8:00...
Please do not park and exit your vehicle.
Please pull up as far as you are able.
The goal is to have your child exit vehicle and head to the playground independently.
Please use caution pulling up and leaving.
At dismissal from 2:50-3:00...
Please do not park and exit vehicle.
Set a goal to have your child look for your car and head right to it.
Please use caution pulling up and leaving.
In the first few days of school we observed students being dropped off across the street or in the middle of the road even when the drop off lane had only a few vehicles. This is a significant safety issue. We know that toward the tail end of the arrival time the amount of traffic thins, but if we say it's okay to park there then, it sends a mixed message that it's okay other times too.
We do ask that you support us in this request in the best interest of our students and their safety. This routine has been in place for many years, but we do struggle to get cooperation. It is intended for safety and also for the many parents who have to pick up children at multiple schools. We have unfortunately had too many close calls where children have nearly been hit and have even had a few fender benders. A staff member is almost always on hand to help students in and out of vehicles if necessary and many to welcome our students to the playground. Thanks for your cooperation.
Important Back to School Reminders, Please Read
New Security Policy
Please take a moment to review the districts new security policy below.
Visitor Security: Every school in the district will be rolling out a new security protocol and technology for guests and volunteers entering the buildings. This system will require identification from visitors (i.e. state ID, driver’s license, etc.), and all visitors will be photographed. A quick background check will be performed by searching US sex offender databases (with the option to expand this to criminal databases.). This system will also link with our student database to provide an extra layer of protection for students with no contact orders.
Save the Date: Curriculum Night: Tuesday, August 22nd from 5:30-7:00
- For families of Kindergarteners, last spring, we had our "Preparing to Launch" orientation. The first week of school, we had a student/parent meet and greet on the first day of school. Therefore, we will not be hosting a curriculum night for our Kindergarten Students.
- Mrs. Rogowski & Mrs. Mrs. Sam are excited to host families in their rooms from 5:30-6:00 p.m.
- Mrs. Cryer & Ms. Bols are looking forward to meeting with second-grade families. from 6:00-6:30 p.m.
- Mrs. Davis & Mrs. Kathe cannot wait to host third-grade families from 6:30-7:00 p.m.
The Book Fair is Next Week
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which will take place from Monday, August 21st through Friday, August 25th from 7:30-3:30 in the Learning Center. We will also be open during Curriculum Night on Tuesday, August 22nd from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.
