NMS Counseling Department
APRIL 2023
STAFFING UPDATE
Thank you for your patience as the Counseling Department experiences staffing changes.
We would like to congratulate Mrs. Foley & Ms. Florio on their new jobs. We will miss them at NMS!
We would also like to congratulate Mrs. Goodell on the birth of her baby! She will rejoin us in September.
We have welcomed two new members to the department: Mr. Schlehuber and Mr. Malinoski.
Mr. Schlehuber is a long term substitute who is covering Mrs. Goodell's caseload.
Mr. Malinoski is a clinician for our SUMMIT program.
We are very grateful to have them both on board!
To contact a counselor, please use the emails below:

COUNSELING APPOINTMENT PROTOCOL
1. Consider what YOU have done to help the situation so far.
2. Check out our department website tab titled "helpful resources" for coping skills, grounding techniques, study tips, and more: https://www.middleboro.k12.ma.us/Page/5867.
3. Check in with the nearest adult. Lots of issues can be resolved by talking to any adult - it doesn't necessarily have to be a counselor!
Still need to chat?
THEN you can contact the counselor you're looking to see via email! We will respond as timely as possible. Please be prepared to patiently wait for availability.
You can test, challenge and change your self-talk, and change some of the negative aspects of your thinking by challenging the irrational parts and replacing them with more reasonable thoughts and with practice, you’ll start to notice your own negative thoughts as soon as they happen, and begin to consciously choose to think about the situation in a more realistic and helpful way.
You can read more about positive self-talk here: https://familyserviceregina.com/challenging-negative-self-talk/
For more coping skills, tips, and tricks, check out the "Helpful Resources" tab of our department website: https://www.middleboro.k12.ma.us/Page/5867
PCC: THE SUMMER OF A LIFETIME
Want to have the summer of a lifetime? PCC is open to current grades 7-10 and will be in session from July 9th to August 4th. Interested students can join us for a presentation during extension block on Friday April 14 in the Media Center where they will hear about the opportunity of a lifetime that will allow them to grow, learn and meet new friends in a positive atmosphere!
ACADEMIC SUCCESS
If you have trouble understanding content, please utilize your teachers' extension block and/or after school help sessions. The staff directory, including teacher emails, can be found online here.
Parents: we strongly encourage you to periodically check your child's ASPEN account to monitor their grades. Teachers must update ASPEN at least once every two weeks. If you are unable to access your ASPEN account, please contact Katie Goodine, kgoodine@middleboro.k12.ma.us.
