Medina High School Staff Member Receives Distinguished Service Award
Congratulations to Karen Platz, financial secretary at Medina High School. She was recently presented with the Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor bestowed on a Medina City Schools staff member.
During the award presentation, Superintendent Aaron Sable had this to say about Karen. "Karen has been a part of the Medina City Schools’ family for the past 20 years. She is a true professional who is always approachable and consistently dependable. She frequently looks for ways to improve systems to keep processes as efficient as possible with the goal of saving time and money for Medina City Schools always in mind.
Karen is incredibly knowledgeable with regard to school finances and shares that insight with other building secretaries. She is not afraid of learning new systems or processes and is often the first to “volunteer” to try out a new initiative prior to the Treasurer’s Office pushing it out to the other building secretaries. A team player and leader in her field, she always goes above and beyond every single day to be sure things are running smoothly.
Medina City Schools is honored to have Karen as part of the Bees family and all of her efforts are appreciated."

Medina Musical Bees Have a "Victorious" Marching Band Season
The Musical Bees Marching Band season has been an eventful and successful one. Their 2021 competition show titled “Victory” honors the group called the GREATEST GENERATION. The band pays tribute to that generation’s 1945 VICTORY in Europe and the Pacific. Their sense of responsibility and self-sacrifice for the common good, not only to ALL Americans but to those around the world, were models for ALL generations to follow.
At the beginning of this season, many of the students submitted photos of their family members who served during this time period. Those family members have been our focus this entire marching season as we pay tribute to them, honor them and their memory.

The Musical Bees will be performing at the Ohio Music Educators Association (OEMA) State Marching Band Finals in Hilliard, Ohio for the 22nd consecutive year.
Finally, the marching band was asked by OMEA back in 2019 to host State Marching Band Finals for one of their four dates and locations. Last year did not happen, but we are one of the hosting sites for this year. For many years other schools have hosted our students at this event. They have helped make this a special day for all the band students across the state. "It is our turn to give back and do the same. Hosting OMEA State Marching Band Finals is not only an honor, but it is an opportunity to showcase our band, our music program, our school, our boosters, and our community, said Medina High School band director, Jason Locher. There will be 24 bands from all over the state performing in Ken Dukes Stadium on Saturday, November 6th.

Medina Athletic Boosters News
The Medina Athletic Boosters always make an effort to make every season for our student-athletes better than the last. In 2021, the Boosters have pushed the bar even higher thanks to the tremendous support from the Medina community, members, and platinum, gold, and silver sponsors.
The school year was kicked off with the 3rd annual Car Raffle which featured a 2021 Chevy Trail Blazer donated by Serpentini Chevy in Medina as a grand prize. Congratulations to Patsy Gresko of Medina as the lucky winner of this year’s Car Raffle, who bought the winning
ticket from Girls Soccer player Peyton Cook. This year’s raffle sales netted $34,000 in proceeds which will benefit all our athletic programs.
Ken Dukes Stadium and Memorial Stadium aren’t the only Medina facilities that are sporting new and improved scoreboards. The Boosters must also offer a sincere thank you to Trillium Creek Dermatology for their sponsorship of the new scoring wings on the scoreboard inside the Rich Clevidence Gymnasium at MHS. This year when the full crowd returned to watch our teams, they will be able to see all the players and their point totals and foul status for the first time.
The Boosters support not only our Bees student-athletes but also the members of our student section known as the Swarm. For every football game this season, the Swarm has selected a theme and the Boosters have produced t-shirts tied into the theme. Thanks to our sponsors, short-sleeved t-shirts sell for only $5. Through the first four games, over 4000 shirts have been sold to our students and fans. “It has been a fantastic season to continue the SWARM shirt tradition,” said Boosters secretary and Swarm Shirts Coordinator Daniella Hensley. “In partnership with the SWARM leaders, the SWARM shirts align with the game themes to create an inclusive atmosphere to rally and cheer on our Medina Bees. We are grateful to our community sponsors for their support.”
Please follow the Medina Boosters on Twitter @medinaboosters. You can be a member too! Go to www.medinaboosters.org and click “Join the Hive” with an elite, gold, silver, or white membership. There are great benefits to becoming a member including tickets, parking, discounts on Medina gear!
