Hembree Highlights
January 12, 2024
Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings Hembree Families!
It was so great to meet many of you this week at my meet/greet on Wednesday. Thank you for the warm welcome. I am excited to partner with you to ensure the success of your child/children. Your child's first-semester report card went home today, you may also view this through Infinite Campus Parent. We conducted our January safety drills this week, and the students did a great job. Just a friendly reminder that we have a long holiday weekend. We will see everyone back on Wednesday, January 17th. Don't forget about our STEM/Star night on Friday, January 19th. I hope I see many of you there. I have a favor to ask of our carpool families. If you could please do your best to arrive before 7:35 AM, it will help with safety. When we have many people trying to cross the parking lot as well as cars continuing to drive through, it becomes a safety issue. Thanks for any help with this, I really appreciate it. Thank you for sending your precious children to school each day ready to learn. I love seeing the smiling faces and getting lots of hugs each day. Hembree is truly a special place.
I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!
Sincerely,
Nancy Lahey

Read-a-Thon!
Parents! We've decided to extend Read-a-Thon an extra week. You can now track your reading up to January 16th (take advantage of the long weekend!), with packets due on January 19th.
If you've lost your Reading Tracker, you can download it here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1I4nlhgre2GvYU3MYoAfmU67GQr-snAo00DLEa4TIRrY/edit?usp=sharing
Just list any dates not listed on a separate sheet of paper.
Don't forget that the read-a-thon is also a fundraiser for the PTA! Please ask family and friends to sponsor your child here:
https://app.memberhub.gives/hembreereads2023/Campaign/Details
The class in each grade with the highest combined total of reading minutes will win a popcorn party! Three lucky winners chosen in a drawing will win a prize, including a Kindle Kids.
You must submit a tracking sheet in order to be included in the drawing! Turn in your tracking sheets to your homeroom teacher.

After School Clubs
Hi Parents! Clubs are underway! It's not too late to sign up - we even have a few new clubs this semester as well!
Here’s the link to sign up:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0844AAAB2DA6FC1-45464244-hembree
Our three new clubs are Gardening Club, Yoga Club and the Drone Zone Club. These three will begin on February 5th, if we have enough students signed up. Sports Skills Club, Hawks Walk, and Culture Corner Club will begin meeting again on January 9th. The last day for clubs this year will be May 17th.
As a reminder, each Club will meet on the same day each week from 2:30-3:30 pm, unless a school holiday occurs on that day. For example, Culture Corner will meet every Friday from 2:30-3:30. Parents are expected to pick up their student at 3:30 in the carpool lane.
The Clubs will be on a first come basis. Once they are full, we will move to a waitlist if needed, in case a student changes their mind. We will continue to add more Clubs as they become available. When you sign up, please be sure to include your child's name, grade and homeroom teacher.
If this is your first time signing up for clubs, you will be emailed a form that must be signed and returned before your child attends a club. You must also submit a transportation change request for the club meeting dates (this only needs to be completed one time, before the first club date).
If your child will not attend on their club day for whatever reason, please submit a new transportation request for that day. Be sure to copy Ashley Russ and your child's teacher on the email.

Student-Led Learning Celebration on 2/8
Silent Auction Donations Needed
Each grade level is creating a basket again this year for our Silent Auction Fundraiser. This is a wonderful and fun way to contribute to our fundraising goals. Last year, our Auction made just over $4,000 to fund the Teacher Grants program through the PTA! Each grade has a separate signup link, but please feel free to donate to any basket you like.
Any items donated for the basket must be unopened. Please be sure not to include anything that needs to be refrigerated or is perishable within a few days - these baskets will not be auctioned off until March.
If you would like to make a monetary contribution to help with our baskets, please do so here:
https://hembreespringselementary.memberhub.com/store/items/48153
On the donation form, be sure to note that it is for the Silent Auction fundraiser.
Please bring in all donations by Friday, February 16th, labeled with the following:
● Silent Auction Donation
● Your Name and/or Student’s Name
● Grade
● The basket theme the donation is for
We are so grateful for all of your help! Also, if you work for a company that is willing to donate any item or service, we would love to add that to our fundraiser as well. Please reach out to Ashley Russ with any questions: ashleyruss88@gmail.com

Attention Rising EPMS Parents/Guardians
EPMS PTSA is looking for people to be on the PTSA nominating committee. This group will help develop the slate of PTSA officers for 2024 - 2025 and is a very nominal time commitment.
We would love to have representation from all feeder elementary schools. Email Jocelynn MacKinnon, and Anngenette Olson at PTSA.epms@gmail.com if interested in serving on the nominating committee.
Participating in the nominating committee does NOT obligate you to serve on the PTSA Board. Thank You!
PTA business partner Elite Skillz will be offering day camps for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and Professional Development Day.
