CHARLES HAY WORLD SCHOOL IB
COUGAR NEWSLETTER
Principals Message
August 18, 2023
Dear Charles Hay Families,
The first full week of the school year is over and we are off to a great start! Our first classes already earned 20 cougar coins and an office dance party. These coins go into our community bucket for a cougar paw and when we reach 42 paws we have a schoolwide celebration! Congratulations to Ms. Heller’s 1st grade class for being the first class to get 20 coins! (See some dance party pictures below.)
For arrival and dismissal, please remember that you cannot use the road on the north side of the school. This is for buses and a fire lane. Please also remember that you cannot park on Lafayette and Eastman on the side closest to the school. This is our car line and when a car is parked it keeps the line from continuously moving.
We have had very few tardies to start the year, so please keep that up! It is really important for students to be here on time each day. The day begins with our community circles and this is a time for students to connect with one another as well as learn important skills such as conflict management, strategies for calming down and how to make friends.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting us to have a very successful start to the school year!
Keely Rochford

SAC/DAC Kick off
Please join us for the 2023/2024 School Accountability Committee (SAC), District Accountability Committee (DAC) Kick-Off event. School Accountability Committees and District Accountability Committees are advisory committees made up of parents and community members. These groups have a profound voice in providing input and recommendations to principals, school leaders, and the Board of Education, on an advisory basis. Annually, they review topics such as budget priorities, school performance plans, academic progress, and family engagement.
This event is an opportunity to meet with your principal along with district leaders and to learn more about how these committees impact decisions made at the school and district levels.
Participating in these committees is a great way to ensure your voice is at the table while advocating for students. If you have any questions, please contact Tamara Nickerson at tamara_nickerson@engschools.net.

Parent Committees- HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Wellness Committee
Do you value social, emotional, and physical wellness for your student? How about for yourself? For the community? Consider
joining our Charles Hay Wellness Committee!
We are a group of parents, staff members, administration, and community members that meet monthly. We discuss ways to increase wellness opportunities for students, families, staff and our Hay community and plan the many wellness events that happen at our
school. Members share community connections, personal passions, and individual support to make these things happen.
Interested? Come to our first meeting on Monday, August 21 from 3:15-4:15 in the library or contact Kelly_Wilbert@engschools.net with questions.
Welcome Back!
We are looking for folks to help support us with this mission as our district has faced significant budget cuts this past year and it has directly impacted our "personpower". We have a lot of events, clubs, and committees we want to continue to offer for our community, but need YOUR help in doing so...whether it's a one time deal, or a weekly or monthly commitment, it is 100% up to you!
Please consider filling out this 1-question survey. Those that complete the survey will be entered into a raffle for a 4-pack of Englewood Recreation Center tickets!
Thank you so much for your support,
Kelly Wilbert, PE Teacher & Wellness Committee Lead
Mary Drummond, PTSA President
Tiffany Kapler and Jenny Lynch, Accountability Committee Co-Chairs
