Student Council Corner
Happy Friday Hawks! This is Mira. This week in Student Council we took some time to reflect on 8th grade parent night, overall the event went very smoothly, and we all had a fantastic time getting to know the Class of 2028! After that we split into groups to work on our upcoming projects: Cultural Awareness Week, Book Swap, Kindness Week and Blood Drive. Our next upcoming event is the Book Swap! The Book Swap is happening in the CVU Cafeteria on February15 from 4:30-7pm. Bring used books into the library the week of the book swap or the day of. This is a fantastic way to get some new books in your rotation, completely free of charge! Have a great weekend!
Student Celebrations
From Rae Bronenkant: A couple weekends ago marked the Vermont State Championship for Indoor Track. This is the first year CVU indoor boys and girls are a varsity sport! Our dedicated team poured their hearts into the competition, and the results were outstanding. The girls' team emerged victorious, clinching the D1 State overall title, while the boys secured fifth place. Notably, Izzy Gravina-Budis achieved a remarkable feat by setting a school record in hurdles, and the girls' 4x400 team also etched their names in the record books. Witnessing the incredible effort and determination displayed by this team was truly awe-inspiring. Say congrats as you see team members around!
EnAct is excited to put on Valentines for the Planet on Wednesday, February 14th, a spin-off of Postcards for the Planet. Come see our table all day in four corners to get fun valentines treats and most importantly, write Valentines/letters supporting bills related to sustainable energy and Vermont's policies concerning it. See you then!
Meet the CTE students who serve their local fire departments amidst national volunteer decreases.
From Lizzy Fox Lausier: Congratulations to Zorah Ngu and Leonie Schwetlick for winning the Montpelier debate competition this past weekend! The Co-Captains of CVU's Debate Team came in first place, ahead of teams from Burr and Burton, Colchester, Hanover, Montpelier, Thetford, and U-32. The topic was whether the government should ban single use plastics.
From Katie Mack: The CVU Model UN Club would like to thank Olivia Francisco ‘21 for coming to share her expertise! Olivia spoke about her participation in St. Mike’s collegiate MUN chapter and offered advice to member who are preparing for their first conference in March. Pictured: Olivia Francisco and club leader Willcox Elliott.
Teryn Hytten is this week's Student of the Week winner at the Burlington Free Press! This award is voted upon weekly to select the most outstanding high school student in Chittenden County, and all nominees are equally deserving for their achievements. Teryn was nominated by CVU for bringing and organizing the CVU Inaugural Empty Bowls Dinner at CVU to combat the plight of food insecurity in Vermont. With an outpouring of community support, this sold out event raised over $6000 for this year's recipient, the Hinesburg Food Shelf. Together, with donations from many local businesses, as well as individual community members the event was a huge success. Thank you Teryn for starting this noteworthy tradition at CVU!
CONGRATULATIONS!

Hi everyone! Our names are Rio, Althea, Gianna, and Wesley. We are in a Principles of Business class and are starting a microbusiness. The name of our business is Player Xpress, and we are going to be selling custom t-shirts for sports games. For example, if you have a friend on a sports team at CVU, or a parent who likes to come to your games, we can print your name and number of choice on the back of the shirt. We will be donating 100% of profits back to CVU sports and activities. We will be taking orders soon, and can do pre orders now! DM us at @cvu_player_xpress or email us at riocenteno@cvsdvt.org!
From Sarah Francisco: Thank you to Francis D. and AJ S. for going above & beyond in Advisory this week! They helped me by assembling a rolling cart in a fraction of the time it would’ve taken me!
From Catherine Saladino: Looking to buy a Valentine for your best friend/special someone, or just for yourself? Women in Business is selling custom beaded bracelets during the week of Valentine's Day. Scan the QR code on the poster to order now! Pretty cool to see we have an archery club at CVU. Thank you, Dave T!
Faculty/Staff Celebrations
Every principal should be so lucky to have the likes of Charlie and Luke on staff. They just whipped up a program (okay, spent weeks coding) to help schedule RISE selections in as equitable a manner as possible.
Anne Muessel and Claire Thibeault have organized all things Penguin Plunge. Thank you!
Speaking of organization, Steve Reinemann has had some extra math this year prepping for tomorrow's Winter Ball. One more day, Steve!
I know I can't claim the Vermont State Police and Hinesburg PD as faculty or staff, but I would like to after today. Your professionalism and care was much appreciated!

Update on CVSD Proposed Budget
The CVSD School Board approved the proposed 2024-2025 budget to present to voters on Town Meeting Day ballots at the January 23, 2024 school board meeting. The proposed budget is now a warned article on the ballot.
However, the Vermont legislature is currently considering changes to Act 127, the new education funding law. Their review may require us to modify our proposed school district budget and possibly when we vote on the upcoming school year’s ballot articles.
We wanted to let all of our community members know that we are aware of this and will do our best to keep you informed as we learn more. We will reschedule community presentations about the proposed budget and will update associated materials when we have clarity.
The CVSD Annual report is now available on the district's website. https://www.cvsdvt.org/Page/1
If you'd like to request a hard copy, please contact Ashley Daniels at 802-985-1914.
happy birthday, AKB.
