STUDENTS GET CREATIVE IN THE APHS FAB LAB
Averill Park High School students tested out some Fab Lab projects in the Mezzanine this afternoon. In the Fab Lab, students can work on various projects and machines, including a 3-D printer, a Cricut, and more.
“Students can come in during their study halls, Advisory, before or after school, any free time they have. They just need to sign in and they can use all of the things we have here,” said APHS Library Media Specialist Morgan Park. “There is a lot of fun stuff, both high tech and low tech, for students to use.”
In addition to the machines, there are cabinets full of fun projects, including a Robot Smart Car Kit, Ozobots, VR Goggles, Makey Makey, Piper Computer Building Kits, Air Powered Racer Kits, and much more.
LIAM ROUNDS NAILS PERFECT SCORE ON AP EXAM
The Averill Park Central School District is proud to announce that Liam Rounds (Class of 2022) earned a perfect score on a college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in spring 2022. Not only did he earn a top score of 5, but he also scored the maximum amount of points on every single portion of the exam! Read more here.

FOUR NAMED COMMENDED STUDENTS IN NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Averill Park High School students Cooper Smith, Christian Romer, Samuel Bonesteel and Tyler Michaels (not pictured) have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program! Commended Students are recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for the Program.
FIRST WARRIOR WAY ASSEMBLY OF THE YEAR TAKES PLACE
Algonquin Middle School hosted its first Warrior Way Assembly of the year. From bucket drumming to Odyssey of the Mind, there was a lot to celebrate!
SENIORS RISE EARLY
HEART AND SOLE AT AMS
Algonquin Middle School celebrated its first big run for Heart and Sole (the middle school version of Girls on the Run)! This is the first year the district is hosting the program at the middle school level and the team is having a great start to its season!
DISSECTING OWL PELLETS
Mrs. Guyer's class at WSL certainly had a very interesting day being scientists! The class was given the opportunity to dissect owl pellets as they are talking about Mr. Ocax, who is an owl in the book "Poppy" they are reading.
ESPORTS CLUB READY TO ROLL
Mr. Malone is leading the way with the AMS eSports Club, which kicked off its first meeting of the year recently!
FIELD DAYS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL
Grades 9-12 held Field Days recently. This is a great chance for each class to get outside, bond, enjoy some downtime, and build community. Field days are all about wellness and balance!

CHESS CLUB KICKS OFF AT AMS
CREATING SEED SCIENTISTS
All three third grade classes at West Sand Lake Elementary School met in Miss Brown's classroom to learn about the class seed sprouter. Students have been busy seed scientists and they're having fun doing it!
GIRLS ON THE RUN KICKS OFF
Girls on the Run is happening at all three elementary schools this year and teams had their first meetings recently. Good luck this season to all who are participating!
DEPUTY NIKLES VISITS KINDERGARTEN
SRO Deputy Nikles visited Kindergarten students at West Sand Lake Elementary School to talk about school safety!
PES BRINGS BACK PRIDE ASSEMBLY
Poestenkill Elementary School held its first PES Pride K-5 assembly since 2019! The assembly was hosted by the PES Character Education Team which shared the word of the month, RESPECT.

FORKY ASKS A QUESTION AT WSL
West Sand Lake Elementary School students have been enjoying their time in the Cafe since school has started; between yummy new menu items and some “get to know you” activities! “Forky Asks a Question” is back and everyone voted on their favorite breakfast cereal. Even Superintendent Dr. Franchini and Assistant Superintendent Mr. Hladun took a moment to weigh in! Lucky Charms came out on top, with 39 votes! Here’s to a great year ahead!
WELCOME BACK, WARRIORS
The Welcome Back Warrior Tailgate Party for faculty and staff was held before the start of a varsity football game. A big thank you goes out to the APTA for donating funds for food provided by Messhall.
APHS STUDENTS VISIT NATIONAL GRID EVENT
Students in the Construction Technology Practicum at the high school took a field trip to National Grid’s “Touch a Truck” event. Students were able to talk with experts in the field, view demonstrations, and see how different equipment works! The course is taught by Mr. Kozlowski and Mr. Engel.
PAWS GREETS STUDENTS AT MORNING DROP-OFF
Paws made an appearance at Miller Hill-Sand Lake Elementary School, greeting students as they got off the bus!
FORGET A NAME, DO A PUSH-UP
PE Teacher Mr. Kennedy is trying to learn the names of all 400 students at Miller Hill-Sand Lake Elementary School. He gives out push-up coupons to the students if he calls them the wrong name. They can save up a bunch with friends or just give one coupon at a time, and they can be redeemed any time.
ALUMNI WATCH: DAN SCHROEDER HAS SOLO ART EXHIBITION
Artist Dan Schroeder (Class of 2009) currently has a solo exhibition at SLCA. Former APHS art teacher, MaryPat Wager and Marsha Gregory attended the reception recently. Dan is currently traveling as an art restoration specialist and was recently featured on “AHA; A House for the Arts” on WMHT. His documentary can be found on YouTube.
