Between Two Schools
Dear Parents and Guardians:
As we celebrate National School Counseling Week, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude and appreciation for the incredible work our Thompson and Wredling middle school counselors do day in and day out. They play a vital role in the lives of our students, providing support, guidance, and resources to help them navigate the challenges of adolescence and achieve success both academically and personally. Let's take this opportunity to recognize and honor their dedication, compassion, and commitment to our children's well-being.
With our counselors in mind, we want to consider…
Ways Parents and Schools Can Support Students with Mental Health Struggles
In addition to honoring our counselors, it's essential for parents and schools to work together to support students facing mental health challenges. Here are five ways we can collaborate to create a supportive environment for our children:
Open Communication: Maintain open lines of communication between parents, teachers, counselors and other mental health professionals. Share any concerns or observations about your child's behavior or well-being, and work together to address them proactively.
Promote Self-Care: Encourage your child to prioritize self-care activities such as getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, exercising regularly, and engaging in hobbies or activities they enjoy. Model healthy self-care habits at home.
Normalize Seeking Help: Break the stigma surrounding mental health by normalizing the idea of seeking help when needed. Encourage your child to talk openly about their feelings and emotions and reassure them that it's okay to ask for support from trusted adults or professionals.
Educate Yourself: Take the time to educate yourself about common mental health issues affecting adolescents, such as anxiety, depression, and stress. Stay informed about available resources and support services both within the school and in the community.
Promote Resilience: Foster resilience in your child by helping them develop coping skills and strategies to manage stress and adversity effectively. Teach them problem-solving techniques, positive thinking patterns, and the importance of seeking help when facing challenges.
Limit Screen Time: Research clearly shows that adolescents who spend more time in front of screens often have greater mental health challenges. You can help your child by not only limiting screen time, but monitoring when they are online.
And know that our Wredling and Thompson counselors, social workers, and administrative teams are here to support you and your child through these challenges! By working together, parents and schools can create a nurturing and supportive environment where all students feel valued, understood, and empowered to thrive.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in our shared mission to promote the well-being and success of every student.
Best regards,
Tim and Matt

Dear Wredling Families
As we look forward to Random Acts of Kindness Week (Feb. 12 - Feb. 16), we are excited to share a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and make a positive impact. Next week, Student Council is thrilled to launch the Veterans' Food Drive, an initiative that resonates with the spirit of kindness and compassion we aim to foster during this special week.
The Veterans' Food Drive provides us with the chance to express our gratitude to those who have served our country while making a tangible difference in their lives. Your support and involvement can significantly contribute to the success of this initiative.
Here's how you can get involved:
Donations: We encourage you to contribute non-perishable food items that will be collected for veterans in need. Donation bins are placed in your child’s pod. Have your child check in with a teacher on the team to earn raffle ticket to enter a drawing for prizes at the end of kindness week (1 raffle ticket for every 3 items donated)
Spread the Word: Help us increase the impact of the Veterans' Food Drive by spreading the word within our school community. Share information on social media, with friends, and family to encourage widespread participation.
We believe that acts of kindness, no matter how small, can have a profound impact on the lives of others. Let's come together as a community and make this Veterans' Food Drive a resounding success.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to making a positive difference during Random Acts of Kindness Week.
Best regards,
Dr. Patrick McGuire

RedHawk Book Vending Machine
Thanks to the generosity of our PTO, we have been able to raffle off many book vending machine tokens for students who have received Redhawk Pride awards, participated in library contests, and other team-level incentives.
But our students want more!
We are now offering our families the opportunity to purchase a book vending machine token. These tokens allow students to select a book of their choice, empowering them to explore different genres and expand their reading horizons. What a perfect way to celebrate a special occasion, such as:
A birthday gift
A congratulations gift
A just-because gift
Or any other reason you can think of!
Book Vending Machine Tokens can be purchased on PushCoin for $15. This is slightly more expensive than most books in the machine, but the profits will allow us to continue to stock and purchase more books for future readers.
Once again, thank you to the PTO for their generosity in purchasing the Book Vending Machine. We look forward to fostering a love of reading, one book at a time! #WredlingReads
5 Essentials Survey
One of the ways I get feedback is through the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey. Each year parents take this survey to let us know how we are doing as a school, and how I am doing as a leader.
Can you please take 10 minutes to complete this survey? I like to get to about 50% of our parents/guardians taking this survey, so the sooner we hit that target, the sooner I can quit asking you!
Here is the link to the survey. It is in Spanish and English.
Please be sure to put in Kane County as our county so you can find Wredling. Also, please read the questions and possible answers carefully as they sometimes mix up the "importance" of the responses.
Thank you in advance for your feedback!
Tim
