New year and new opportunities for success! Lao Tzu put our new semester in perspective by saying "A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." Let us journey together as an organization into the new frontier of professionalism, collegiality, learning, and growth.

Dear Members,

I cannot recount the number of times I have read a leader’s message at the beginning of a document, handbook, or something similar and then asked myself, “What did I really learn?” In fact, my own students recently confessed to not having read the introduction to their textbook, which had content they needed in their assignment. We may ignore these introductions or messages because they may be perceived as filler with little value or content.

So, to that end, and given you have read this far, let me try and provide something useful. Over the next two years, one of my goals is to see the NAKHE family grow. Our numbers are consistent, but many, many faculty in our field have never heard of us. We can change that. A second goal of mine is to reevaluate the organization’s name. NAKHE has been the name for many years now, but as we look to further support international faculty, that must be reflected in our name. “National” implies an organization limited by a country’s border, which we are not. Of course, the membership will be full participants in this process, so expect more to come from the board of directors, committees, and town hall discussions as we consider how we meet our mission. This is an exciting time for the organization, and I am thrilled to be able to play a part. I hope you will too!

2021 marked the passing of Daryl Siedentop, who was recognized around the globe for his scholarly excellence and profound impact on the disciplines of physical education and sport pedagogy. This call is for article proposals for a proposed special issue that attempts to capture the impact of Dr. Siedentop’s contributions to these fields and serve as a fitting dedication to the legacy that he created.

This special themed issue will provide an opportunity for professionals and scholars in the areas of pedagogy, science, health and sports, to present, discuss, and reflect on Dr. Siedentop's impact on various aspects of the profession. The special issue welcomes potential contributions to his impact on one of the following themes: Physical education teacher education; Research in physical education or sport pedagogy; Physical education practice in schools; Physical education or physical activity policy; Physical education at the international arena. Articles will be a maximum of 20 pages in length and can be empirical, theoretical, or narratives of his influence.

Interested authors are asked to submit a proposed title, list of authors and affiliations and 150 word description of the content of the article to the guest editors: Tristan Wallhead (wallhead@uwyo.edu) and Shiri Ayvazo (shiri.ayvazo@mx.kinneret.ac.il). All received proposals will be subject to review (accept/revise/reject) in consideration of previously accepted proposals.

The deadline for proposals is February 28th, 2022.

Instructional models for physical education provide teachers with opportunities to think, plan, and teach in innovative ways to meet diverse student needs and ensure equitable learning environments. Drs. Mike Metzler and Gavin Colquitt have recently developed a new website that can be found at https://impe-physicaleducation.com/. This is a FREE resource for all physical educators. Teachers can view example unit plans and videos from real teachers who have gone through the process of learning to use instructional models and are now implementing them in their own classrooms. Additionally, physical education teachers, faculty, and students can submit their own resources to be posted on the website. Please feel free to use this new companion web resource and share it with your colleagues and students!
