Board Meeting Summary October 17th, 2023

General Information

President Snider called the October Regular BOE meeting to order at 6:31 pm. After roll call, the Board approved the meeting agenda and consent agenda, consisting of the minutes from the September meeting, bills, payroll and the treasurer's report.


During Board input, Dr. Kashner shared that the audit is expected to be completed at the end of this month and the auditor has offered to come speak to the BOE. This is an annual item that is offered to districts and most districts have them speak every 3-4 years. After discussion, it was decided to have the auditor come to the November board meeting.


Teacher Heather Blackmore was welcomed and asked if she wanted to address the board. No public comments were made.


During communications the PreK board report was shared including information regarding the PreK program receiving the "Gold" standard for PreK through the State for the second consecutive year. This is a high honor achieved through site visits and data analysis. Additionally, Dr. Kashner shared that student performance data will be released from the State on November 1st, along with a district "profile" page that highlights facts about the district.

Old Business

In Old Business, the BOE:


  1. approved a snow plow bid with Kaus Seed. The district received only one bid for snow plowing services despite reaching out to several other local companies. Dr. Kashner commented that Mr. Kaus and his crew do a wonderful job and are easy to work with.

In New Business the BOE:


  1. approved a second grade field trip to Highland for a theatre production.

Superintendent Report

In the Superintendent Report, Dr. Kashner shared the quarterly financial report and provided updates on student participation numbers in cheerleading. For the quarterly financial report, Dr. Kashner highlighted that both revenue and expenditures are historically where they have been and nothing has stood out at this time. The budget is on target with a deficit due to the district paying with reserves for the elementary addition. With this being the first year that junior high cheerleading has been offered in the district for some time, Dr. Kashner shared that 16 students are currently participating.
