MUMS Family Newsletter
December 1st, 2023
Dear MUMS community,
We hope this email finds you well and that you enjoyed the November break with your families.
Please use this link to access a document that will help you understand your child's report card. After accessing this link if you still have questions about the report card in general please reach out to Michaela Wisell. If you have questions about a particular grade, please reach out to teachers directly. We thank you for your partnership and ongoing support.
We recognize that this time of year can be challenging for families in many ways. If your family is looking for help or needs support, please reach out first to your child's counselor and we will do our best to help in any way we can.
We look forward to tomorrow night's schoolwide dance and hope to see many students attend. We appreciate the support of all of our staff and volunteers who are working with us to make this happen.
If you have questions generally, please reach out to us at mwisell@acsdvt.org (Michaela)
or zjerome@acsdvt.org (Zach) or dhunt@acsdvt.org (Dustin) or by calling the MUMS office at 802-382-1600 or by visiting the MUMS website for more information.

From our MYP Coordinators
Mrs. Morrissey and Mrs. Diedrich are enhancing their current math unit by taking the concepts outside of their classrooms and applying them to real life! There was a Zoom interview with state personnel, and students received a video message sent to them by a professional women’s soccer player who played in Israel! All of this work is a way to apply math to the global issue of the “wage gap” between various populations.
Their assessment will be to take on the role of a career counselor and to research the wage gap for their client in various states. They will prepare a proposal as to the best salary for that profession for a given discriminated against marginalized populations, and which state pays that highest salary.
Thanks for bringing math to life!

Dance Details
Students can't wait for tonight's dance which is from 7:00-9:00pm! Below are some pertinent details that may help you and your child plan!
- Permission slips were given out to students in TA. If your student needs an extra copy they can visit the counseling office to get one.
- Permission slips should be brought to the dance and will be collected when your student enters the dance.
- If the entry fee is a hardship, no worries at all! Your student can connect with their counselor, or let us know upon entry and the fee will be waived.
- Friends of MUMS is excited to once again provide a concessions table. Each student will be given one FREE ticket when they arrive at the dance which will be good for a snack or drink!
- Additional snacks and drinks will be for sale for $1.00 each. Proceeds from the sale will benefit MUMS class trips. Thank you for your support.
- As always water cups will be available for students to use at the water fountain. In addition to the dance in the gym there will also be a fun photo booth with props.
BIG thanks to everyone who has signed up to help out!
Update from the Counseling Office
The Counseling Office would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Food Drive. Our goal was to donate at least 389 items - one item for every student at MUMS. We reached that goal and will be dropping off over 400 items to HOPE this afternoon!
Harvest of the Month Update!
Our first Harvest of the Month was a success! Students prepared, served and enjoyed delicata squash with maple syrup.
Charter House members will also be enjoying the squash with their dinner.
Relocation Drill December 6th, 2023
Earlier this year, we shared an overview of school safety at ACSD. In the month of December our MUMS School Safety focus will be “Relocation”. This is a procedure that we would follow in the event of an emergency here at school that would cause us to relocate staff and students to keep us safe. Like any safety drill, it is important to practice with our students and staff. The MUMS school safety team has been refining this protocol over the last few weeks and we are ready to complete a practice drill. We plan to practice our relocation protocol on December 6th 2023. Students will do this “on team” with support from folks on our School Safety Team. This will happen in the context of the school day. Our primary relocation site is the Middlebury Recreation Center. I will a general overview of how this went in next week's newsletter and would appreciate it if you directed any questions or concerns to me.

Memo. From Nurse Palko
REMINDER
Flu and covid are on the rise!
If your child is exhibiting any of the following symptoms PLEASE DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL.
Fever 100.4 and greater
Chills
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Flu like symptoms- general malaise, body aches
The student must be symptom free for at least 24 hours (without the use of medications) before returning to school.
It is strongly encouraged to test your child for covid. Unfortunately, the school is unable to provide covid tests to students at this time, we should be getting more in- but a very minimal amount. Please check your local pharmacy, online, or the local health department. The federal government is also offering 4 free covid tests to each family, see the following website www.covid.gov
Hand hygiene! Encourage your child to hand wash frequently and utilize hand sanitizer. Cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. And don't forget to schedule your child for their annual flu shot and covid booster!
Following these guidelines will help stop widespread flu and covid throughout the school. If you have any questions please reach out. Thank you!
