Sound and Light!
This week, Wascher kicked off the first grade Science Experiences at the Evergreen Space Museum. Students learned about sound and light energy using flashlights, resonance bowls, thumb kalimbas and more. See more photos on the MSD Facebook page!
Weather Reminder
Our team will monitor the weather conditions over the weekend. If there will be a significant impact on school operations for Tuesday, we aim to inform you by 5 p.m. on Monday so you can make the necessary arrangements.
Upcoming Safety Summit
MSD will offer a Safety Summit for K-12 families and the community on Wednesday, March 6 from 6 - 8 p.m. at McMinnville High School. Stay tuned for more details!
Suicide Prevention
From ODE’s Mental Health initiative, here is some information on how adults can help prevent youth suicide.
Newby at School Board Meeting
Several fourth grade students from Newby visited Monday’s School Board meeting to talk about family engagement activities at their school.
Students and teachers have been working together to strengthen their school community through events like after-hours play times at the park, Loteria night, and service activities. Students reported that the service activities were not only fun, but also helped them see the value of helping others.

Nominate an Outstanding Teacher!
Nominations are now open for Oregon’s Teacher of the Year. Anyone can propose an exemplary teacher up until the deadline of Feb. 21, 2024. Regional Teachers of the Year win $1,000 and a chance to win Oregon Teacher of the Year and receive $10,000 and $5,000 for their school.

Bus Changes
During Winter Break, First Student adjusted several bus routes to increase efficiency and get students to school faster.
Families affected were sent ParentSquare messages with route updates. You can double-check bus stops/times here. You can also download the FirstView bus tracking app to get real-time notifications of your bus location and more.
Creative Writing Contest Opens
Paper Gardens, the annual writing competition, is open for submissions. There are various categories for both prose and poetry submissions. Entries are free for students. Find out more here.
Career Support for Girls
The McMinnville chapter of Soroptimists is hosting a free pizza party and career-building workshop for girls ages 14 - 18 on Friday, Jan. 26 from 5 - 10 p.m.
The “Dream It, Be It” program is intended to improve the lives of women and girls through social and economic empowerment. Find out more here.

The January lineup of activities for middle and high school students at the McMinnville Library, Aquatic Center or Community Center was sent to families via Peachjar. Check it out!

Community Shoutout
Before the Winter Break, several MHS students in the Mid-Willamette Online (MWOE) received succulents donated by Kraemer’s Garden to recognize their attendance before the holidays. Thank you!
