Husky Highlights Newsletter 👋
Back to School - SPECIAL EDITION -
Principal's Message
Greetings Tuscarora Family,
There has been so much great work happening, we just had to send out a mid-month newsletter!
Welcome back, teachers, staff, students, and families to the 2023-2024 School Year. Our team has been working diligently to make sure we are ready for an amazing year of fun and learning. If you have not had a chance to review the information from our August Newsletter, please click here to view the information.
A special Thank You to our PTSO for a fantastic lunch on August 23rd. The entire team enjoyed the special treat and we are truly grateful for the collaboration and support.
I want to specifically highlight a few items:
- Tuscarora Tailgate - August 25th 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The tailgate is a Tuscarora tradition and a fantastic opportunity for families to have some fun, grab some food, and gather for the first football game of the season.
- The new cell phone expectations were communicated earlier this week. The expectations are included in this newsletter. Please review them with your student.
Please read through this newsletter to familiarize yourself with other events at the school.
As always, please reach out to me or any of my staff for assistance. We are looking forward to the best school year ever!

Tuscarora Cell Phone Expectations
Tuscarora High School Cell Phone Expectations
Purpose
At Tuscarora High School our faculty and staff value making connections with our students in the classroom. Teachers have expressed concerns about student cell phone use and the impact it has on classroom engagement, relationship building, critical thinking and peer collaboration. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Tuscarora teachers, administrators, and support staff to strengthen our classroom learning environments and deepen learning experiences. We appreciate interacting with students before, during, and after lessons so that they feel confident and engaged with our content and school community.
Classroom Expectations
The school wide expectation is cell phones and earbuds be placed in backpacks or a designated place inside the classroom. Cell phones are to be silenced and will not be accessible during instructional time, Tusky Time, and Advisory. Students are not permitted to bring cell phones to the bathroom. Students should use all LCPS provided apps on their LCPS provided Chromebooks such as e-hallpass.
Hallway, Lunchroom and Library
Students may use cell phones and ear buds during class changes, in the hallway, and in the lunchroom.
Appropriate use of cell phones is also permitted in the library.
Study Hall
Teachers may permit students to use their phones in study hall, however if a student is failing a course or has make up work to be completed for one or more classes, the student will not be permitted to use their cell phone or earbuds until the assignments are completed and submitted to the classroom teacher, with the goal of reducing the need for credit recovery.
Parental Contact
If students need to communicate with parents they may do so during class changes. If parents need to reach out to their student, in the case of an emergency, please contact the main office (571-252-1900).
Teacher defined guidance:
If a student does not adhere to the school wide initiative, the following steps are to be taken:
1st occurrence: Teacher will remind the student of the expectation and a warning.
2nd occurrence: Teacher will remind the student of the expectation & contact parent.
3rd occurrence: Teacher will remind the student of the expectation and assign detention.
4th occurrence: Teacher will remind the student of the policy, assign detention, and contact parent.
Please keep in mind that this is schoolwide practice, and it is important to be consistent. We thank you in advance for helping students fully engage in the instructional day.
Collaboratively,
Tuscarora Staff
