Dear Hiteon Families,

Happy New Year to all of you! We are expecting 2020 to be an amazing year at Hiteon! On our first day back to school after the break, it was warming to see the students arrive with smiles on their faces ready to learn. As we walked the halls and classrooms over the past few days there is a lovely and magical hum of learning occurring all through the school. As we move into the New Year we continue to strive to be “KInd”. Kindness is our overarching theme this year and students continue to display kindness by using polite words, holding doors for each other, helping each other when needed and saying a kind word when another student is in need. Once we meet our kindness goal we will have a hat day.

As we continue to keep kindness on our radar we are also focusing on empathy this month. Empathy is defined as the ability to understand the feelings of another person. Empathy looks different at the various ages but it is always amazing when someone can relate to how you are feeling.

The Beaverton School District is transitioning to electronic report cards for all students. The electronic report cards will be accessed through ParentVUE (mobile and desktop). If you have not set up your ParentVUE account, you will need to do that by January 2020.

There are resources and guidance on how to set up a ParentVue account. Please view the FAQ for instructions on setting up your account.

There are several benefits to moving to paperless report cards. You will be able to view grades days after grading days, rather than wait up to two weeks for a report card to come by mail or in your child’s backpack. In addition, moving away from paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for the District.

Please contact your school if you need help setting up or accessing your ParentVUE account or need assistance with a printed copy. We will be sharing more information about this transition in the coming weeks.

Las boletas de calificaciones se enviarán electrónicamente y no en papel

El Distrito Escolar de Beaverton está haciendo la transición a las boletas de calificaciones electrónicas para todos los estudiantes. De ahora en adelante usted podrá obtener las boletas de calificaciones electrónicas a través de la aplicación ParentVUE (por celular y computadora). Si todavía no ha configurado su cuenta de ParentVUE, deberá hacerlo antes de enero de 2020.

The safety of our parent and student community if very important to us. And we want to make sure that everyone is crossing the streets in a safe manner and at designated locations. As you aware, traffic at arrival and dismissal can be extremely busy and dangerous.

We want to remind you that we have trained crossing guards at each of the crosswalks around school. We ask that parents and students cross the street at designated crosswalks and not in the middle of the streets.

Official crosswalks with trained crossing guards are located at 135th & Singletree, Davies & Singletree, Brockman & Davies and Brockman & Bridletrail.

There is a crossing guard located at the driveway on Davies behind the fire station. This IS NOT a crosswalk for the street. This person is there to help with vehicle traffic coming in and out of the parking lot only.

Thank you for your working with your students in assuring everyone is safe around school.

Movie Night is coming soon! We look forward to having you join us for this family fun experience in the Hiteon gym.

Movie Night is a family event. Please make sure all children in attendance have an adult present to supervise. We ask families to keep their children with them at all times and seated during the movie.

For the convenience of all we will be taking a brief intermission this year mid-way through the movie. This will be a great time to get extra concessions and use the restroom. Thank you for helping us make this event great!

State law requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start and certified child care facilities have up-to-date immunizations, or have a medical or nonmedical exemption.

Parents or guardians will receive a letter in early February if their child’s immunization record shows that he or she has not received the required vaccinations. Children will not be able to attend school or childcare starting February 19, 2020, if their records on file show missing immunizations.

The Beaverton School-Based Health Center and the Merlo School-Based Health Center are both resources for families in the Beaverton School District to get immunizations.

With colds, coughs and flu season upon us. Please review the poster below for reminders of when to keep your students home when they are too sick for school.

Beaverton School District follows “Head Lice Guidance” provided by the Oregon Department of Education and the Public Health Division of the Oregon Health Authority.

Students with symptoms of suspected head lice will be referred to school staff for confidential individual screening. Students with live lice or nits (eggs of head lice) will be allowed to remain in class and participate in school sponsored activities the remainder of the school day.

Unnecessary absenteeism leads to missed learning opportunities for the student and potentially lost family wages due to loss of parent/guardian workday.

Schools will communicate with family’s regarding recognition, prevention and treatment of head lice.
