Ranger Report
December 1, 2023
Hello Ranger Families,
Happy Holidays from all of us at EHS! This is an exciting time of year as many of our seniors start receiving college acceptance letters, winter sports athletes start competing, and everyone looks with anticipation to some much deserved time away from classes. In addition, the end of the first semester is quickly approaching. As a “snapshot” of your student’s academic progress, letter grades will be visible to students and families starting on Monday, December 11th. Please take the time to review with your student their progress toward their essential learning standards. If your student is missing any work and needs to retake assessments to meet their essential learning standards please make a plan today. All of us at EHS are deeply committed to every student’s success and will continue to work hard, in service to the Estacada community, to support every student in their education. The first semester ends on February 1st, so please encourage your students to speak with their teachers, attend REID days and position themselves to remain on-track for graduation as they continue their commitment to deep, meaningful learning.

A Message from the Oregon Department of Education
The Assessment Team is committed to developing a balanced approach to our assessment system over the coming years, including support for formative assessment practices, interim/benchmark assessments, and summative assessments. Oregon's Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) currently includes summative assessments administered annually by subject matter and grade. Pursuant to federal and state accountability requirements, Oregon public schools test students in English language arts and math in grades 3 through 8 & 11 and science in grades 5, 8, & 11. Additional required assessments include an English language proficiency assessment for English learners (ELs) and the Oregon Extended Assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities. These summative assessments used for accountability are customized for the needs of Oregon students; test development for these assessments has included Oregon teachers in all feasible aspects (e.g., item development, scoring rubric validation, standard setting).

Classrooms are Cell Phone Free Zones
Life is full of distractions that keep us from performing our best.
Our expectation is that classrooms are cell phone free zones.
The classroom is a space for learning and engagement in preparation for a student’s next step in life. Join us in fostering this commitment to learning by:
Talking with your student about their cell phone use in school.
Be prepared to set limits and to collaborate with school staff in making learning a priority.
