Good evening, Waters Landing family,
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! We are looking forward to celebrating with our Latino Heritage Car Parade on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. We hope to see you there! Please find a video, also linked above, that explains the history of Hispanic Heritage Month.
It was wonderful to see so many families at Back to School Night last Wednesday. Please take a moment to share your experience by answering two questions for us by clicking here. We want to make sure that we are meeting your needs. Your ideas are important to us.
The first Dolphin Date, facilitated by our Parent Community Coordinator, Ms. Moore, will be held this Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 6:00pm in the Media Center. This is an opportunity for parents to come together and share ideas to raise happy and healthy children.
Montgomery County Public Schools is taking an active role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect through early prevention and intervention education. At Waters Landing Elementary School, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. In the months of September, October, and November, during classroom lessons, we will be presenting lessons on the topic of child abuse and neglect. These lessons will be conducted for students in K through Fifth grade. The lessons are known as Personal Body Safety Lessons (PBSL) and their purpose is to help students to:
Develop knowledge, decision making skills, and behaviors which promote safe living in the home, school, and community;
Learn skills for self-protection and identifying child abuse and neglect;
Learn skills for asking for help for self and others and practice reporting to a trusted adult. Engage in positive and appropriate interactions with peers and adults.
If you have any questions or concerns about the topics that will be covered, please contact our counselors at Nichola_R_Jessee@mcpsmd.org or Diyana_J_Sanders-Gunaratnam@mcpsmd.org.
We are in need of officers for the 2023-2024 WLES PTA. The PTA is one of our key community partners. The mission of the PTA is PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. If you are willing to serve as the president vice president 1, vice president 2, treasurer or secretary, please click here to let the nominating committee know. Elections will be held at the PTA meeting on October 2, 2023. We really need your help with this. Without officers, there will not be a PTA at WLES. Our students deserve an active PTA here at the Landing.
With Dolphin pride,
Mrs. Hammond, Principal
Mrs. Nelson, Assistant Principal
Mr. Kim, Assistant School Administrator
