Principal Note
New Munhall Principal—Zachary Minell
This morning Mr. Zachary Minelli visited Munhall and met with the staff before school, and he had the opportunity to go into each classroom for a more personalized visit with students. During each classroom visit, we asked students to share ideas about what makes Munhall a special school. I was thrilled to hear all of the creative and specific responses our students provided. I was very proud, and Mr. Minelli was impressed!
Munhall is truly a special school, and Mr. Minelli is fortunate to be the next leader of such an invested school community.
Expression of Gratitude
I have been very humbled by the various acts of kindness from the staff and students this week. Throughout the week I saw students dressed in Indiana University gear, wearing t-shirt from our favorite bands, students and staff attempting to dress like me, which was hilarious. Also, today was definitely the ‘cherry on top’. With our staff we commonly discuss our building wide WIGs (Wildly Important Goals). The staff took a creative and kind pivot with the concept and had students/staff wears wigs to symbolize I was a Wildly Important Guy.
Finally, on Wednesday, the students and staff pulled off a true masterpiece in the art of deception, as they were able to get me, unknowingly, outside the building, where I was greeted with 500 students singing me Happy Birthday, only to be follow-up by the Indiana University fight song. The staff also ensured my own family was present, which made it even more special. It was a moment I will remember forever.
Our 5th Grade Students Middle School Tour
This morning our 5th grade students visited the middle school they will be attending next year. This is always an important step for our 5th graders. The tour, coupled with seeing the building, and meeting many friendly faces, hopefully built a lot of excitement for their pending transition to middle school. I believe our 5th grade students are ready to fly, and they should do Munhall proud, next year and beyond.
MunRun
I want to thank all of our students for their fundraising efforts for the Mun Run. Although our Mun Run event brought unseasonably warm weather, our staff and students had a blast! We surpassed the threshold of $7500, which means I need to ride around the school on a tricycle. I will certainly share the date with families, so students can know when to expect it. First, I need to get my hands on a tricycle I can actually ride😊
Field Day
Next Thursday will be the annual Field Day. It looks like the weather is going to suitable for outdoor activity than this week. Our 3rd-5th grade students will have their Field Day in the morning, followed by our K-2nd grade students participating in the afternoon. Below parents will find the link for the Sign-Up Genius, which allows parents to volunteer for the Field Day event.
5th Grade Celebration
On Monday, May 23rd, our 5th grade students will be walking to Langum Park for a celebration of our elementary accomplishments. Students will get to participate in a variety of games, play kick ball, sign 5th grade t-shirts, enjoy snow cones, listen to music, and more. I want to thank our PTO 5th Grade Committee for the job they’ve done planning a fun day for students.
Since students will be leaving school grounds, students will receive a permission slip. Permission slips need to be returned by Thursday, May 19th.
Munhall Night at the Cougars
Tonight is the Munhall Night at the Cougars. Congrats to all of the students who earned their free ticket! It should be a beautiful night for baseball.
Have a great weekend!!!

A Note from the Nurse's Office
It's hard to believe another school year is almost over! This is a reminder that you will need to come to school to pick up your child's medication by the last day of school. Medications that are not picked by the last day of school will be disposed of. We are not able to keep medications here over the summer. Medications will need to be picked up by a parent or adult designee with parent's permission unless your child has a self carry form on file. If you have any questions, please contact the health office at (331) 228-2604 or email your school's nurse wendy.plach@d303.org
