Our Tumuaki Principal
Kia ora koutou.
From the Principal's desk:
- Draft Class Structures 2022: Here is the draft 2022 structure that we are working on. Things can change if our enrolment dynamics unexpectedly move around. This can cause us to rejig things and this happened last year. However, if all stays as we know at present this will likely be our structure.
- Team Kea: Room One, New Entrants and Year One, Miss McVicar.
- Team Kiwi: Room Two, Year One and Two, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Duffy.
- Team Pukeko: Room Three, Year Two and Three, Mrs Coyle.
- Team Tui: Room Four Year, Three and Four, To Be Confirmed.
- Team Kereru: Room Five, Year Four and Five, Miss Nicol.
- Team Kahu: Room Six, Year Six, Miss den Boon.
- Composite Classes: As you can see above, by moving to six teachers, we have a lot more composite classes. This means children's year groups are spread across two rooms. Please chat with me should there be anything that we need to know in relation to this. This needs to occur before 12th November as from there we move into establishing the 2022 rooms in our various computer systems. On the second last day of Term Four we then bring all the new classes together (as they would be for 2022) so the teachers and children met each other. We believe this approach gives children a strong start to the next year removing all surprises.
- School Board 2022 Elections: We are moving into the last term of 2021 and next year, in Term One organisation begins for our School Board election. A School Board is future governance focused. It prioritises projects seeking to build the school of tomorrow. Another big part of the School Board is that they are the employer of staff and this is a very big way that parents, by being School Board members, get to contribute in a real and tangible way to the flavour and direction of the school. Should this be an area that you have skills and experience in you might like to consider standing. Chat to an existing School Board member and you are welcome to attend a meeting or two to get a feel for what happens. The link to more information is below.
- Staff Appreciation: A big thank you to the School Board for their morning tea shout on Tuesday acknowledging the work that the staff did as part of the Level Four and Level Three lockdown during this term. It was much appreciated.
- Sunflower Progress Photos: Children are telling me that their plants are growing which is really exciting. We have Golden Crown and Moulin Rouge. I'm looking forward to seeing sunflower growing progress photos. Send progress shots to principal@edendaleps.school.nz. I have the prizes now. The winner of each category (see below) will win a $25 Warehouse voucher.
Thank Yous - Team Edendale
- Amy Smith: Amy is our After School Care Coordinator. At the start of the year and just recently, we have been working with MSD to renew our OSCAR Accreditation. It is not a small job. There is a lot involved with it. Thanks to Amy's work we have been successful and our accreditation will continue for a further two years. Well done Amy.

Edendale Community Pool Society (ECPS)
Last week the ECPS held our AGM and first general meeting of the season.
We thank out-going President, Karen Milne, for her work for the committee over the past four seasons (two as Vice-President and two as President). She is a busy member of our wider community and we appreciate the interest, energy and time that she has given us in her roles during the past four years.
In her final President’s report Karen thanked those who assisted with the opening and closing roster last season, also making special mention of Jenny Coyle as Secretary/Treasurer, Nicol Elliott for organising the roster, and to Brent Shepherd and Reece Cameron for their tremendous work with overseeing the running of the heat pump and other systems that keep the pool operating during the season. Our 102 members and their families/households would not have access to this local facility without the time and commitment of volunteers such as these.
Our new President is Jeannine Cunningham; Secretary/Treasurer continues to be Jenny Coyle; and the Vice President position is still to be filled.
We are grateful to all those who attended the meeting and those who have volunteered for the roster for this season.
We are aiming to open for this summer at Labour Weekend (should all go well with the pre-season maintenance jobs and filling/heating of the pool).
Last season’s members will receive an email shortly with information about renewing their memberships.
New membership information will be advertised on our pool Facebook page soon; these will be arranged directly with Jenny, our Sec/Treas. Thank you to the team at the Edendale Dairy for carrying out this role in the past two years; we have appreciated your help.
In Term Four the ECPS is hosting H2O Dreams swimming lessons, as well as JCSwimmers lessons, and are happy to be able to provide a local facility where children can be learning to swim safely. Thanks to a Waihopai-Toetoe Community Board Community Partnership grant there is a fee rebate available to attendees of those lessons, should they meet certain requirements (contact Jenny for information: ecpscontact@gmail.com).
Thank you very much to the Edendale Primary School Board of Trustees for their continued support and cooperation in making the pool facility available to the ECPS for the community to use. The Ministry of Education process towards getting a new pool roof is finally underway and we all look forward to seeing the plans progress.
We hope to have a great season, and that all those who join as members will have a lot of fun using the pool.
Ngā mihi nui,
the ECPS committee
