Au Gres-Sims Families and Community,
For the past three years it has given me great joy to visit this classroom most mornings and talk with our young Wolverines. They approach learning each day with energy and excitement and a curiosity that is enviable. I swear if I could just bottle up that energy and enthusiasm I would be a rich man and would put the world's coffee producers out of business!
This Monday was sad, as I didn't have my little extra wake up boost visit into the preschool room. It was also exciting in a way, because it marks the first close point of the end of the school year, a year that has felt much more familiar than each of the previous two.
Below you will find a couple of short videos highlighting our youngest learners. They are our future and their curious minds are a treat to us all. Many thanks for the gifted and special teachers that worked with them each day this year, Ms. Amelia (Freehling) and Ms. Gina (Sanchez).
By the way, if you were wondering what that picture was above, that is a portrait of me that one of our GSRP students drew for me in the last week of school.
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Ming

One of the special events coming up is our MS/HS Academic Awards Program. This is for grades 6-11 on June 1 at 7:00 pm and is by invitation only. For students receiving awards, we are in the process of notifying families of their child’s accomplishments. All of these communications should be completed by the end of next week. If you have a question about your son/daughter receiving an award, please call the main office at 876-7157.
As we wrap up the school year, today’s newsletter will mention a few opportunities of summer events.
June 13-15 is “Ballin’ on Break”, which is a basketball camp in Standish for youth in grades K-5. The cost of camp is $45, which includes a free T-shirt if registered by June 5. For more information click on the hyperlink.
The Bay-Arenac ISD is offering a CTE Summer Camp for students entering grades 5-8. Camp runs from June 19-22 from 8:00-3:00 and the cost is $200. Career camps include Cadet Camp, Cooking Across the Sea, Club Med, Nature Quest, and Skilled Trades. Each camp is filled with fun, hands-on activities. All camps include a continental breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt. You can register at baisd.net or contact Tiffany Sheppard at 989-686-4770 extension 3412.
The Iosco-Arenac District Library is offering a Summer Reading Club Program and various summer time activities. These will run from June 20 to July 27. For more information call 989-362-2651 or go to ioscoarenaclibrary.org or the Iosco-Arenac District Library Facebook page.

I have a lot of information to share with you this week. First, I am attaching the Summer Enrichment flyers that were sent out via Thrillshare this week. Like last summer, we have a program for current 6th-8th grade students and a program for current Kindergarten-5th grade students. (Note: This program is open to all students who are not already part of the Title I Summer Program with Mrs. Gordon. If you were invited to Mrs. Gordon’s program, you should have received your invitation earlier this week.) These 6-week-long virtual programs will focus on reading and math skills that have been identified as areas of focus based on our Spring NWEA results. There is an online platform that the students will be working in, as well as weekly sessions with a staff member for small group or individual help. The program will run from June 26-August 4. Please click on the links above to access the flyer to sign-up!
The High School Credit Recovery Program letters will be going out at the end of the school year. As a reminder, this will allow students who have failed a semester in a class to get back on track. Like last summer, we will refund the $50 course fee if your student successfully passes the course and earns back their credit. The program also runs for 6 weeks - June 26-August 4, and now that we are using Edmentum teachers for all courses, there is no in-person attendance requirement. If you know your child is behind in high school credits, be sure to watch for notifications from us in June.
As far as testing is concerned, I am currently working on make-up testing for K-11 for any student who did not complete their NWEA. I will then begin doing retakes for students who fell under the district retake policy of a drop in score of more than 10 points from their last testing session. These will be completed throughout the week and I hope to have testing wrapped up by the end of next week.
Finally, I realized that the start of the month snuck on by and I have not yet shared the School and Home Connection Newsletters. Please click on the links below to view the newsletters for Elementary and Middle School for the month of May!
