Lenox Elementary Newsletter
Week of March 28th
Greetings Lenox Families/Saludos Familias Lenox
I hope the week of Spring Break offered you all time to re-connect with those you love, to enjoy the beautiful Oregon spring weather, and time to reflect on all of the great things that you have accomplished over the course of the last seven months of our school year. We are in the home stretch of the year - let's finish strong!
Science Fair was a huge success! Special shoutout to Lance Geiger for all of his work coordinating the event and to all of the volunteers who listened to students presentations. We had over 150 students participate!
There are many things happening this month both in school and in our community; be sure to check out all of the details below. And, as a reminder, if you ever have questions, suggestions, or wonderings, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher, the office or me. Communication and connection are key to our success!

Important News & Notes
Attendance Reminders
If your child will be absent for any reason, please call the attendance line at 503-844-1363 and/or email thomasl@hsd.k12.or.us within 48 hours of your child's absence.
Just a reminder, we are unable to send students on another bus with friends. Thanks for your understanding!
Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
- Please pull all the way up and around the corner at the parent drop of area - this will alleviate congestion on Rock Creek Blvd
- Work to have students exit vehicles on the passenger side of the car
- You can drop students off in the front bus loop after 7:45, but not before
- Parent pickup signs have been ordered for those that do not have one - they should be arriving in the next few weeks
Volunteers
We appreciate the involvement of community members and parents who volunteer at Lenox. As the safety of students is of primary importance, the following procedures are required for processing volunteer requests.
- Complete the volunteer application on our website.
- The information you provide will be used to complete background checks through the state's criminal records system and the Oregon Department of Education's sexual misconduct database.
- Once these checks have cleared, you will receive an email asking you to complete a survey and upload proof of COVID-19 vaccination, per the Governor’s vaccination mandate.* (*Volunteers may fill out a form requesting a medical or religious exception; however, these will only be considered on an as-needed basis as staff availability allows. Anyone receiving an approved exception will be required to follow a set of increased safety measures when volunteering.)
- In addition, all volunteers will need to submit to a fingerprint-based criminal records check by March 28, 2022, in order to continue volunteering. Until this check is completed, volunteers will not be assigned duties that could put them in a situation where they have direct, unsupervised contact with students. If the check is not completed by March 28, 2022, your volunteer status will go from “approved” to “pending” and you will no longer be allowed to volunteer.
Health and Safety Reminders
HSD Update, 3/4/22, 2 p.m. - Please click this link for details of our plan to make mask wearing optional for most people as of Monday, Mar. 14. Listen to the podcast version of this communication. Click here for an at-a-glance version of the following information.
Students and staff may be too sick to attend school in person. We will continue to request that those who are ill stay home until they are feeling better. If you or your child test positive for COVID-19, you can access centralized support through the Positive COVID Test website or by calling the COVID-19 Case Support Hotline at 866-917-8881. If your student comes to the health room feeling sick, they will be asked to put on a mask.
If a student becomes ill at school, they will be sent to the health room for evaluation. If they are exhibiting primary symptoms of COVID-19, they will be taken to the isolation room where they will be tested for COVID-19, once parent/guardian permission has been granted.
- If they test positive for COVID-19, they will be asked to isolate at home for at least five days. They may return to school once they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medication and other symptoms are improving.
- If they test negative for COVID-19, they will be asked to go home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medication and other symptoms are improving.
