Hubbard Woods Update
April 3, 2023
Principal Update
Hubbard Woods Families,
Welcome back! There is excitement in the air as everyone returns from break. It was so good to see all of the smiling faces this morning and it sounds like some good family time took place!
I hope that you were able to read this letter yesterday from Dr. Tess about security and safety. Please reach out if you have questions about our practices as they pertain specifically to Hubbard Woods.
Before the break, we had wonderful experiences in our art classes with the Filament Theater. They have given us a coupon for a free child ticket for their performance currently taking place at the theater.
Erin's Law
This spring, building social workers and/or classroom teachers will implement state-mandated sexual abuse prevention education during one 20-30 minute session in each classroom. Parents have the option to opt their children out of the program as they deem appropriate by completing this form by April 14. For more detailed information about Erin's Law, including curriculum content and zoom opportunity with social work staff, please refer to the Erin’s Law page of the District website, this parent letter or by contacting your school’s social worker, Susan Johnson.
IAR State Testing
For third- and fourth-grade students, the return from spring break is followed by our yearly administration of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The IAR consists of five total tests in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. We encourage students to get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast for these assessments. Teachers will communicate the testing dates for their individual classes.
Spring Sing
Save the date: Spring Sing format will shift a bit this year. We will divide into smaller groups to allow a more individualized experience for our students. Please save the following dates and more information will be shared in the coming weeks.
5:30-6:30 May 23- 1st and 2nd Grade
5:30-6:30 May 24- 3rd and 4th Grade
Kindergarten will have its own Spring Sing. The date is still being determined and we will share it as soon as we have that information.
Please see below for information about Earth Week.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody

Safety Procedure for Building Visitors

A Message from The Winnetka Public Schools, the Village, and The Winnetka Police Department
This spring, a traffic study will be conducted on and around Crow Island Elementary School’s campus in order to determine the most efficient traffic flow when construction is underway during both the Stormwater Improvements Project and work related to the referendum, which commence in spring 2024. The traffic study will utilize cameras on poles set up at these Crow Island-area locations (between Glendale and Locust; and Mt. Pleasant and Cherry Streets) during the first week of April 2023. Further information on recommended traffic pattern changes, possible road closures, and other relevant information will be shared with residents prior to the launch of these projects.
Working in Winnetka 36:
Winnetka 36 is always looking for great candidates when there are openings and we appreciate referrals encouraging them to apply. Here’s a link to our current openings: https://www.applitrack.com/winnetka36/onlineapp/default.aspx
We also get questions about the necessary steps on how to become a substitute teacher and thought we would share how to do that on the bottom of the document: https://www.isbe.net/Documents/how-become-sub-teacher.pdf
