Principal's Message
I hope you all had a great weekend! I wanted to congratulate all of our Cross Country runners for an amazing season and an incredible finale at the conference meet. Thank you to Coach Schmidt, Coach Henry, and Coach Gross for all your work with our runners. This week we close out our Girls Volleyball season and we wanted to say GOOD LUCK to our teams!
EMERGENCY SYSTEM TEST: This week DG58 conducted a test of the emergency communication system. We had a lot of success with our Herrick community. To help maintain that success, please remember to take a few minutes to look at your PowerSchool communication email and phone to make sure everything is correct.
VOLUNTARY COVID TESTING SIGN-UP: District 58 encourages families to consider signing up for free PCR COVID-19 testing for District 58 students. Registration for this optional testing program is open and our program is actively underway.
Families can select from any or all of three types of testing services including:
Weekly screening testing (routine testing)
Symptomatic testing (testing when a student or staff member develops symptoms at school)
Test-to-Stay (testing for situations in which a student has been identified as a close contact)
Test-to-Stay, an IDPH-endorsed process that allows a close contact to remain in school with regular antigen testing, will begin next week. Please see the district communication regarding the IDPH's guidance regarding when Test-to-Stay can be implemented in schools.
ACTIVITY BUSSES: The bus will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The bus will leave Herrick around 4:00 PM on those days. Any student who stays after school for support, club, etc is eligible to take it. It stops at routes based on the students who ride the bus. They will need to know their bus-stop to assist the driver.
ORCHESTRA CONCERT: This Thursday is our first Orchestra Concert which is a Cross-Town and DG58/DG99 combined concert. The concert takes place on Thursday, October 14th at Downers Grove South High School.
DOWNERS GROVE HISTORICAL SOCIETY HONOREE: Marilyn Ludwig was the director of the Center Stage plays and the Drama Club for many years at Herrick. She will be honored by the Downers Grove Historical Society next Saturday. Please see the flyer below for more information.
CELL PHONES: Student cell phones are not allowed the classroom. Cell phones should be off and put away. In the event that you need a message delivered to a student, you are able to email them or call the office and we will deliver the message during 1st period, lunch time, or prior to student dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES: Thank you so much for signing up for Parent-Teacher Conferences! Please make sure that you are registered for conferences with teachers that your student currently has. This should be for all first trimester (7th grade electives) and first quarter (8th grade electives). If you registered for a conference with a teacher that your student will have in the future, we ask that you cancel that time and set up a time to meet the teacher after your student begins the class.
Thank you and have a great rest of your day!
