Tuesdays with Morrie
In Miss Raulerson's 10th grade Honors English classes at West Nassau High School, students often engage in thought-provoking literature, and at the end of the second semester, they read "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom. This memoir explores the profound lessons learned by the author during his weekly meetings with his former sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, who is facing a terminal illness. The themes of life, love, and meaningful connections resonate with 10th graders as they navigate the complexities of adolescence. The book encourages reflective discussions, fostering empathy and a deeper understanding of the human experience among students. After reading and discussing the memoir, they created photo essays that connected to life lessons that Morrie taught Mitch throughout the novel. The students made real-life connections with the literature and appreciated the themes seen throughout the memoir and their lives.
Laws of Motion
In Mrs. Russell's middle school science class, students actively engage in hands-on exploration, experimenting with Newton's Three Laws of Motion. This dynamic and interactive learning experience allows students to apply theoretical concepts to practical experiments, fostering a deeper understanding of fundamental principles in physics.
