Weekly Community Updates - October 27, 2023
Dear Students and Families,
This week students learned about various Interims by talking to the teachers planning interim. Please take a look at the packet below and ask your student what they plan to sign up for! Interim forms are due Monday November 6th to the front office. Please note that College Tour Adventure has special funding and will be prioritizing 1st generation college students.
In advisory, students were given the Halloween costume rules which are the same from last school year. Please read all of the rules below but the two to note is being culturally appropriate and to leave fake weapons at home.
I hope to see you all at Halloween Fest this evening!
Have a great weekend!
Take Care,
Maritza Torres
Halloween Fest is Tonight!
Join us in the cafeteria for Halloween Fest from 6:00-9:30pm!
Halloween Fest is a community wide event open to everyone! ASB has been working hard all week to organize this exciting event. Come celebrate Halloween with food, a haunted house, and other spooktacular activities!
There will be no in and outs for students and we will be conducting bag checks. Lastly, the only entrance to the event will be from the Oceana Blvd parking lot.
Interim Courses
Students received their course sign up sheets. Please review the interim course packet, choose the top five and turn in the sheet by Monday, November 6th.
Interim Placement Process: Course sign up sheets turned in on time will be randomly sorted by grade level. After randomly sorted, Seniors will be placed into interims then Juniors, sophomores, freshmen and finally any late interim course sign up sheets. After students are placed in interim, they cannot change.
College Tour Adventure: This interim has special funding attached to it which means 1st generation college students Juniors to Freshmen will get priority. If there are any questions, please contact Ms. Torres.
Advice to Sophomores and Freshmen: Be sure to have one of your top five choices be an on campus interim.

4 Year Grad Plan
In September Ms. Holahan and Ms. Owyang met with 11th grade students to do group lessons during flex time about 4 year graduation plans. They discussed Californiacolleges.edu, how to use the platform, discussed what a 4 year grad plan is, and considering/planning out courses for senior year. After the lesson, students were asked to sign into their californiacolleges.edu accounts and start to map out what courses they plan to take next year. As a reminder, students did not request/register for any course, but just created a plan for what they need for graduation and to be 4 year college eligible.
Here is the lesson slides.
