The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
January 26, 2024
Dear Families,
It has been so great to be back at school this week! đŸ˜€
This week I met with a number of local organizations (PBOT, Safe Routes to School, SMILE) and a concerned parent with regarding traffic and safety around our school during pick-up and drop-off. We have noticed a great deal of students being let out of cars on the street side, cars parking in the opposite direction (even in front of the school bus) and people not using the cross walk or crossing at corners. Safety is a huge concern as I don't want to see any child or adult to get hurt! To keep everyone safe, please ....
1. Park on side streets or the parking lot across from Wilhelm's Mausoleum and walk your child to school.
2. When dropping off your child, please have them exit your car on the sidewalk side of the street.
3. Park briefly to drop your child off in only the areas marked for this purpose (near bike rack, after the bus zone).
4. Do NOT park in the bus zones.
5. Remind your child to use the cross walks & model this practice for your child.
6. DO NOT park in the opposite direction of traffic (this is actually against the law).
Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone safe! I will share recommendations for changes made by this committee of organizations as soon as possible.
On a positive note...On Day 1 of our READATHON we have already reached 5000 minutes on our READOMETER. Way to go readers!!!
(Reminder) As you know, we are already near the end of the 2nd quarter already. Quarter 2 ends on 1/26 and teachers will be preparing student Report Cards on 1/29 (NO SCHOOL). Please look for your child's report card to come home with them on Monday, February 5th.
Warmly,
Principal Pam

Llewellyn Readathon
The Llewellyn Readathon began on Wednesday, January 24! Register now to get your kids signed up, preview the prizes, and help support our community school. It’s not too late!
We've got all sorts of fun in-school activities planned to celebrate our students' love of reading and all things books. Plus, we've got lots of incentives and prizes in store for Readathon participants, like Wallace Book gift certificates, Principal for a Day, Ice Cream Sundae parties, and more.
This fundraiser is replacing the auction as the PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year. It is instrumental in providing free field trips, teacher stipends, community events like the carnival, funding the Llewellyn Garden, the mason bee program, and more.

PTA Happenings
It's nice to be back to just walking in the rain again!
The Llewellyn Readathon has begun!!! We are already seeing some minutes logged and our students are making amazing progress toward our 100,000 minutes goal as a school!!! Donations are coming in and we are so grateful to see all the support from family, friends and community members. Remember to send out at least 5 support emails/texts to family, friends, or neighbors by Friday to have your student's name added to a raffle for some amazing prizes! We already have some really great prizes available for top readers and top reading classes so don’t forget to log your minutes in school and at home to help us meet our goal. Remember to check out our bookometer inside the school to see our whole school progress! https://pledgestar.com/llewellyn/
Reading Night is coming up on February 1. We have some familiar faces on the readers list and several local children’s book authors reading their wonderful books. Come and listen as Dillon T. Pickle, Art of Science Erin, Ms. Gilkey, and other fun faces fill our night with some great read alouds.
Our PTA meeting will be February 20 @ 7 pm in the Llewellyn library. Our very own Llewellyn parent, Lahela Isaacson, will be our guest speaker. Lahela is a therapist that works with children ages 3-10 and specializes in autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing challenges, emotional regulation, developmental challenges, parent coaching and family/dyadic therapy. Last year she spoke about neurodivergent learners and how to best support them in the classroom and at home. We will also have our very own Mason beekeeper, Debbie Conrad, coming to discuss what our students will be learning about Mason bees this spring.
