Indian Run Family Update

Hello Indian Run Families,

We hope you all had a wonderful week! We are always here to support so please reach out if you have any questions or need support in any way.

This week we'd like to share a neat family activity called a Family Temperature Check. The purpose of this activity is to practice empathy and compassion as a family. No pressure to join in but if you want, decide this week on a time and place to do a Family Temperature Check. Sit together as a family and eliminate any distractions. Ask each family member, “how are you feeling today?” Practice active listening skills as family members each take a turn to talk about how they are feeling. When someone shares a challenging feeling, instead of jumping in to provide advice, take time to listen and use empathic statements like:

• “What has that been like for you?”

• “I’m sorry you are going through this.”

• “That sounds really hard for you.”

• “It makes me feel ____ to hear that happened.”

• “What do you need right now?”

To start, you can use a simple check-in system like, “How are you doing on a scale of 1-5 today?” As you get good at answering questions like that, you can continue to develop your emotional vocabulary and vulnerability as a family with more complex sharing! Just an idea :)

• These conferences will remain virtual via Google Meet.

• One in five children has a significantly impairing mental disorder, yet less than half get the treatment they need. Half of mental health conditions begin by age 14 and 75% of mental illness presents by age 24. (NCH).

Board passes new COVID-19 protocol resolution

At a special meeting on Jan. 18, the Dublin City Schools Board of Education passed a resolution changing COVID-19 protocols. You can view the resolution at this link.

2022 Community Champion Award Nominations

The Dublin City Schools Zone Podcast
