Building Design and Construction Phasing
Over the past several weeks, we have moved beyond design work to focus on the plan for how we will actually accomplish the work. Here are a few details:
- RDA and NV5 have divided the work into a series of PHASES that will begin in the spring of 24-25 and run through 2026 and possibly beyond.
- We are sharing the DRAFT PHASING PLAN with our staff this Thursday at our EARLY RELEASE.
- We will be looking to offer our feedback on the various challenges that will accompany each phase. These challenges include:
Plan for Moving Classrooms and Programs
Potential Impact on Learning (Construction Noise, etc.)
Restricted Playground and Outdoor PE Area Access
Restrictions/Changes to Parking
Anticipating Unforeseen Challenges
Newton Serves
Thank you to all of the families who turned out this past Sunday to participate in a day of service for the school community. The group spent several hours sprucing up the grounds, picking up trash, and adding fibar/mulch to the playground area.
Thank you!!!
Food and Culture Night
Join us for Food & Culture Night on Friday, May 17 from 6-7:30pm.
Sign up to help or host a table
On Food & Culture Night, the HM gym is transformed into a global fair with tables hosted by school families - introducing food and artifacts from various cultures, countries/states where they have roots, or places they are interested in exploring. Children are given a passport and are encouraged to visit all tables and earn a prize. We hope you will join us for this relaxed, fun, festive event! Sign up here to host a table or volunteer.
UBU DAY
On FRIDAY, May 17th, we invite students in the Horace Mann community to wear something that showcases who they are. Let’s get to know a little about each other and celebrate our differences.
Ideas
A special outfit from your culture
A uniform from a team you play for
Your favorite color
An accessory you wear for a hobby (bakers might wear an apron, or swimmers could wear goggles)
An accessory with a special story
A shirt with the logo of a sports team you cheer for
Placement Update
I have received over 150 submissions from parents about placement for next year. I have read each of the submissions and distributed them to current teachers for use in our placement process.
Please note that we will do our best to take into consideration your thoughts, but cannot guarantee any specific requests. This includes requests to have a certain teacher, or to be placed with a specific friend.
Also, each year there are changes to teaching assignments, including grade level changes. I will update the community on those changes as we get closer to the end of the school year.
