Let's work together to build strong readers!
First Edition 📕
The Science of Reading
How exactly do children learn to read? The science of reading is not a specific program or teaching method, but a collection of guiding principles that can help improve reading instruction. In order to be a successful reader, students need a solid foundation in the following areas:
1. Phonological Awareness: the ability to identify and manipulate sounds in words
2. Phonics: understanding the relationship between sounds and letters in order to read and write
3. Fluency: the ability to read text aloud at an appropriate rate and with expression
4. Vocabulary: the ability to understand and use high-quality language
5. Comprehension: the ability to summarize, tell the main idea, and draw conclusions from a text
So...what does that mean? How do we help? There are so many ways your child can strengthen their reading skills and become successful readers, even outside of school! Here are some fun and effective ways to bring reading from the classroom, HOME!
