Greetings Dunning Community,
I hope you had a wonderful and restful long weekend! As we return to school, we want to extend a special thank you to all the veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice in honor of Veterans Day. We are reminded of the importance of gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy and the heroes who make them possible.
Last week, all students spoke about GRATITUDE, our new character trait of the month. They also particpated in our first No Place For Hate lesson around our identities. Students spoke about their own identities and the importance of their names.
Reminders:
1. Early Release THURSDAY 11/14: Staff Professional Development
2. See updates below about our November STEAM Challenge!
3. Take a look at our new "Staff Recognition" Form below :)
Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue our learning journey together. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a great week ahead!
Warm regards,
Kathie and Kate

Dunning Cardboard Challenge 2024
November STEAM Challenge: Can you create a tiny community structure using recyclable materials?
Past, Present and Future Architecture: Students will use their imagination and creativity to design a tiny community structure (For example:a house, a farm, a library, a wetu, a firestation, a school, a moon colony, etc.). The challenge is inspired by the short film,”Caine’s Arcade” about a child who used the resources around him to build something amazing. Look for the links to the films in the Notes From the Office.
Students will be working within their classrooms to design their inventions from cardboard, recycled materials and their imaginations. All students will create a planning sheet with a list of their needed materials and bring it home.
We need your help! Each child should bring ONE paper shopping bag filled with the materials to build their own planned invention. Preference is for materials that are being reused for this purpose, not bought. Bags of materials are due on Friday, November 22nd. All materials must fit within the bag and bags may not be brought in before Friday, November 22nd. All classes will build and share their creations the following week.

Care & Share
For the month of November, we are collecting CEREAL to go to A Place To Turn food pantry in Natick. The two classrooms that collect the most food items for the pantry will earn extra recess!
Note from the Main Office:
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
If your child is absent from school or you have a change in dismissal, please contact your child's teacher AND both of our office staff Beth Last (elast@framingham.k12.ma.us) and Crystiane Azevedo (cazevedo@framingham.k12.ma.us). Sending notes to all three is important if we have staff out unexpectedly to ensure all information is updated before attendance calls are made. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Looking forward to our continued work together,
Beth Last and Crystiane Azevedo
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Morning Arrival
(Please read thoroughly)
Students Arriving by Bus:
Buses will pull into the horseshoe driveway and drop off at the front entrance of the school. There will be many adults stationed outside for morning duty to welcome students and help get them safely into the building. Kindergarten staff will help students move into the classrooms safely and classroom aides will help the children access breakfast in the cafeteria.
Students Arriving by Car:
For parent drop off, parents should park and walk their children to the building.
● Main Entrance: (Parents can park either on Frost Street or in the main parking lot as you pull into the horseshoe. Please DO NOT park along the horseshoe driveway)
● Kindergarten Door: Kindergarten students and siblings can enter at this door
● Rear Door (Eastside) near pathway coming from Walsh parking lot
● Rear Door (Westside) near Cornell Street entrance. Cornell Street can be used as a rolling dropoff point, please be respectful to neighbors and do not park and leave your car on the residential street.
There are three options for parking:
● Frost Street
● Walsh parking lot
● Dunning main front parking lot. Please note that parking in the Dunning front parking lot will take longer as the first priority will be to allow for buses and vans to drop students off. Staff will be stationed outside of this parking lot to direct traffic during this time.
Parking Restrictions and Safety
For the safety of our students and staff members, there is no parking, stopping, or dropping off along the horseshoe. As buses drop students to multiple schools in the morning and afternoon, it is important that they have clear access when dropping students off or picking them up.
When buses are stopped and have their stop sign up, there is NO passing at all. When vans are stopped on the horse shoe with their lights flashing, there is NO passing at all. Please follow the direction of staff that will be present during dropoff and pickup.
During the hours of 8:45 AM-9:30 AM and 3:15 PM-4:00 PM the parking lots adjacent to the building (East Wing Kindergarten Lot and West Wing Front Parking Lots) are CLOSED to all cars.
Students who are walking to school without a parent:
Walkers without parents should enter the building in one of the arrival doors (Cornell, Walsh, Main Entrance).
*NEW* Blue Zone (Approved Permitted Drop Off/Pick Up Lane):
If your student requires an alternative drop off plan, please reach out to our Office Manager, Beth Last: elast@framingham.k12.ma.us
Those families approved of a Blue Zone Pass will be permitted to pull through the horseshoe with the vans and buses to live drop off in front of the school. The Blue Zone Pass must be visible for staff to see each day.

Parents should meet their child at that location at 3:30. Once students have been picked up, we ask that you leave school property promptly to keep the flow of dismissal moving quickly.
