Have an awesome summer Salisbury!
From the Principal's Desk:
Dear Salisbury Families:
Well, another year gone, and in a few days it'll feel like the dog days of summer already! It was a really fun last week at Salisbury Community School, and special moments great and small abounded. Whether it was our Annual All-School trip to Waterhouses, 5th grade promotion, the 3-4 classroom auction, the last time with Kindergarten buddies, final conversations with beloved counselors and staff in the waning minutes of the year, or any number of year-ending moments, it seemed like the students left happy and fulfilled. As the staff finishes up their year, I hope they will do the same.
Thank you to the parents at SCS who work so hard every day to give their children what they have and what they need. You are amazingly supportive and responsive, and are great partners in your children's education. We at Salisbury Community School appreciate you!
Thank you as well to the faculty and staff at Salisbury Community School and ACSD, who work so hard, often in unseen ways, to give students the best educational and socializing experience that you can. Your passion and devotion for the job is seen, and appreciated.
And thank you, especially, to our students, who come in and work so hard every day. School can be hard, and it can feel long and tiring, especially on a hot day or when things in life get a little mixed up. It is beautiful to see students show up for school ready to go and then settle in- they just naturally relax and engage. I hope all of our students have really good summers!
Please read below for any last minute news and thoughts- especially about grade configuration. Please note the two opportunities for grade configuration feedback this week, and if I don't see you at those, have a great summer and we'll see you near the end of August!
Best,
Bjarki
Important Dates Coming Up:
Tuesday, June18th: In-person discussion of 2024-2025 Class Configurations. SCS Library.
Wednesday June 19th @ 7:00: Community Zoom "Class configuration" virtual meeting.
Community Conversations on Class Configuration:
As I have said now in a few spots, the smaller schools in ACSD are looking at their class configurations, and we at Salisbury Community School are in the process of soliciting public feedback about our configuration for next year. We held the first of three public sessions last week- but there are two more coming up:
1: There will be an in-person session this Tuesday (the 18th) at 6:00 in the library,
2: There will be a virtual session this Wednesday (the 19th) at 7:00.
- Here's the link to the virtual meeting if you are interested in attending! (It is different than last week's link).
- Here is a link to the guiding slideshow being used in those meetings, with the four proposed options.
- Here is also a link to the Community Feedback Survey- please fill one out if you can!
Thank you so much for looking at this with us!
Fun Events at SCS!
We had a blast at Waterhouses on Thursday!
Well, we had to do some re-configuring (thanks to everyone who gave lifeguard suggestions), and we were able to move the "Waterhouses" trip to Thursday. Wow was it worth it! What an absolutely lovely day, with lots of swimming, playing, and fishing. Thanks to Steven Hill for joining us as our lifeguard, thank you to Cathy Farman at ACP for allowing him to be available, and thank you to Waterhouses for being so welcoming! We value our Salisbury relationships so much, and it means a lot to us to end our year with you.
5th Grade Promotion!
On Friday at 1:00 we held our 5th grade promotion! We don't have great photos (partially because the principal was running the thing, and not able to take pictures), but we had a good time, beginning with the "Running of the Halls" and ending with cake and chit-chat. In between we shared some year-ending thoughts, said "goodbye" to departing staff and families that will no longer have a child with us, and watched a really fun slideshow capturing the students' history that was assembled by the 5th grade (with much direction and help from Ms. Sabol). Good luck in your future schools rising 6th graders!
Final Read-a-thon minutes and winners!
During our May Read-a-thon students read for a total of 1,172 minutes! Our high readers (and receivers of a gift certificate to a bookstore) were:
K: Daniel Dragon
1: Finnegan Clark
2: Madelyn Quesnel
3: Paisley Sheldrick
4: Harper Armstrong.
Great job gang! Keep up that reading this summer! Nothing helps a student be ready to re-enter school in the fall than to continue reading during summer vacation.
