i-Ready Minutes
September i-Ready Minutes
Hello Lehigh Families,
i-Ready is a great resource for our kids to use daily. The expectation is for ALL students to do 45 minutes of Reading and 45 minutes of Math every week. If you have access to a computer and the internet, you will be able to access i-Ready at home. Use the student Symbaloo link-
https://omsdstudent.symbaloo.com/home/mix/13ePBice8A and go through CLEVER to log into i-Ready.
This month, the 4th grade accumulated the most i-Ready minutes for Reading and the 1st grade had the most for Math!! Congratulations to both grade levels. Keep up the great work.
THANK YOU!!
Mr. Russ
Attendance Matters
Attendance counts!
September is Attendance Awareness Month! This year's attendance campaign is "Every Day Matters," Regular attendance is crucial for student success, helping to build strong academic foundations and fostering a vibrant school community. This month, keep an eye out for exciting activities and events focused on the impact of showing up every day! #AttendanceAwarenessMonth #AttendanceCampaign #EveryDayMatters #WEAREOMSD #StriveForLessThan5
Come to school every day-we have so many fun incentives happening right now. We have our attendance assemblies where we honor students with monthly perfect attendance and classrooms with a trophy to keep for the month! We have perfect attendance parties for classrooms who have students here on time every day and complete their Lehigh letters coloring. And last but not least we have attendance surprise days; one per month!
PAWS OUT for the classes that had the best attendance!
Good Times in Games 41
ELOP Clubs session 2 is now underway. We have 30 clubs going with Games 41 being popular with the upper graders. Students enjoy ping-pong, cornhole, foosball, ladder golf, and just a place to hang out. Besides clubs, students enjoy the games during recess and lunch. Fun times at Lehigh!!

College Spotlight
Stanford University
Lehigh Elementary is a No Excuses University (NEU) in which we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to go to college. In each newsletter, we will spotlight a college so that our community can learn more about colleges. This month, we spotlight CalTech! CalTech, short for California Institute of Technology, is one of theforemost scientific and technical institutions in the United States located in Pasadena. Many scientists and nobel prize winners have worked and taught there. CalTech operates the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (or JPL) in conjunction with NASA. The mascot is the beavers, and the school colors are orange and white.

How To Support Your Student With Homework
Happy October Lehigh Families!
You spoke and we listened! At our last Coffee with the Principal you voiced your #1 need, tips on how to best support your student with homework. We created a list of local and online resources for you to explore.
Supporting your elementary school child with homework can be a rewarding experience for both of you. Here are some tips to help:
Create a Routine: Establish a consistent homework schedule. This helps your child know when to focus and builds a habit.
Set Up a Dedicated Space: Provide a quiet, well-lit area for homework, free from distractions like TV or noisy siblings.
Be Available: Be nearby to offer assistance but allow your child to work independently. Encourage them to try solving problems before asking for help.
Stay Positive: Offer encouragement and praise their efforts, not just the results. This builds confidence and motivation.
Use Resources: If your child is struggling, consider using online resources, books, or educational apps to reinforce concepts.
Communicate with Teachers: Stay in touch with your child’s teachers to understand expectations and get insights into how you can help at home.
By providing a supportive environment and encouraging independence, you can help your child develop effective homework habits and a love for learning.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
Cooperation
Cooperation is an important character trait that helps us work well with others. When we cooperate, we share ideas, listen to our friends, and support each other to reach a common goal. For example, during group projects, cooperation allows everyone to contribute their strengths, making the work easier and more fun. It teaches us the value of teamwork and helps us build strong friendships. By practicing cooperation, we learn to appreciate different perspectives and become better problem solvers, creating a positive environment for everyone.
PBIS
We Got Gold!
That's fantastic news! Congratulations to Lehigh Elementary for earning the Gold Award for PBIS! It's a wonderful recognition of their commitment to creating a positive and supportive school environment. Keep up the great work, Lehigh Lions!
Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) Expectations and Examples
- "Remember to always show RESPONSIBILITY by having your materials for class."
- "Remember to always be READY TO LEARN in the classroom."
- "How did you show RESPECT today?"
It is always a great conversation topic to also talk about how you showed RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and READY TO LEARN in your daily life. We teach our students by example so sharing your experiences during your day is always a great opportunity to TEACH and MODEL!
