🏔️BGVA News for the Week 🏔️
October 25th, 2024
Hello BGVA families,
Happy last week of October! I really enjoy this season of frosty mornings and early sunsets! My family and I took advantage of the great weather and enjoyed our annual pumpkin patch field trip. I hope you all are getting in some fun family time this month.
Autumn brings many celebrations and activities; from Fall Festivals and Homecoming dances, to parties and Craft Bazaars. Some of you may be planning to dress up for your activities. BGVA K-8 students will be allowed to dress up for Tuesday Oct 29th Directed Studies.
All students will be allowed to dress up on Oct 31st for their virtual classrooms or in person they are visiting on campus.
Here are a few guidelines to follow if you choose to dress up.
**Every costume must be school appropriate; which means clothes must fit properly with no masks, no gore, weapons or simulated weapons. If you are unsure, either do not wear it or check with your teacher or advisor before attending. We want you to enjoy yourselves, but let’s make sure we do it well and keep it fun.
Remember, the Battle Ground Festivals Association will host its “Annual Trick or Treat Trail” from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Costumes are encouraged and Battle Ground merchants provide the goodies. This is a fun and safe activity for the whole family. The event happens in Old Town on Main street - All are welcome!
Family/Parent Portal - Imagine/Edgenuity
Parents/Families and Guardians, this Family/Parent portal is becoming a very useful tool for families to stay current with their students' academic progress. As we come to the end of the month, I strongly suggest you get portal access so we can all help our students in as many ways as possible. To get your Parent Portal Activation Code: please email your request to mehr.mercedes@battlegroundps.org and klein.kathleen@battlegroundps.org
Our new attendance system is up and running. You will be receiving current information from our attendance staff. This is communicated through the School Data platform to help our families stay informed of students' attendance. We thank you in advance for reviewing this informational tool to help us ensure accuracy.
As a reminder, with the upcoming seasonal changes, it is important to be mindful of the possibility of inclement weather. BGVA is now designated as a South school. Moving forward; this means we will follow the BGSD South school schedule when there are snow days or changes in the regular school days.
Check emails regularly: It is very important for students and families to check emails frequently. This is our main form of communication and we do not want you to miss any important details your family may need.
Here are a few other important items for you to consider:
BGHS Homecoming: Saturday Oct 26th - Check HS section for details
Parking/Drop off & Pick up: Please remember to park only in designated spots in our parking lot. The bus lane is not a designated parking area. Enter the East entrance and follow the serpentine route through the parking lot.
Accessing BGVA: If you are wanting to access a BGVA teacher, classroom or lab, please call the BGVA office at 360-334-8250 or email our teacher/advisor so we can let you into the campus.
Chromebooks: BGVA students can get Chromebooks and Tech support by contacting Julie Mehr either by email mehr.julie@battlegroundps.org or by phone at 360-334-8291.
Weekly student/Teacher contact: This can include direct emails or through the online classroom platforms. Please make sure you are responding to emails and class prompts weekly to ensure we are all in compliance with Alternative Learning Education (ALE) requirements.
Advisory Contact: At BGVA, we have an extra layer of support for our students in the form of staff advisors. Be sure to do your monthly check-ins to ensure you are getting everything you need to be successful here at BGVA
Activity Participation - Local Middle and High School
As a BGVA student, you are eligible to participate at your local middle or high school for their after school activities; such as sports, drama, band and other activities. Studies show that students engaged in extracurricular activities have better attendance and higher grades. Make sure you reach out to your local school or contact your BGVA advisor if you have any additional questions regarding these opportunities.
