FHS - On the Plus Side
(Week Ending Feb. 14th)

On the Plus Side
...is a simple reminder of some of the positive events that happen at Framingham High School every week. #flyerpride
Environmental Awareness Club
The Rotary Club of Framingham, in collaboration with the Environmental Awareness Club, hosted a rain barrel painting competition among clubs at the high school. The goal of the project was to provide the barrels to residents of the city for free to help promote sustainability through water conservation.
After voting, the winners were the Environmental Awareness Club (1st), KFB (2nd), and Sewing Club (3rd). Thank you to all who participated and to all the teachers who judged the competition!
I've also attached the 3 winners and a picture of EAC with Rotary Club members.
American Literature Classes
Mr. Chancey and Mr. Pimentel’s American Lit ACP class traveled to the JFK Presidential Library on Thursday morning to learn about the United States involvement in the Cold War and in Vietnam as they read Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried. A great time was had by all.
Spanish Class
Srta. Londoño and Srta. Campbell's Spanish class rate and vote on songs from the Spanish-speaking world during the month for Locura de marzo or March Madness. Srta. Londoño created a giant bracket board to help students visualize the competition!
National Honor Society
NHS students made over 150 Valentine’s Day cards for the residents of St Patrick’s nursing home.
Key Club
Key Club is a student run community service club here at FHS. This year they have worked to write letters to staff for Teacher Appreciation and have helped clean classrooms and the outside of trash.
Boys Swim & Dive Team
Congratulations to the boys swim and dive team who won the South Sectional Championship last weekend. This was the boys first time winning this championship meet since 2015 and their 3rd title in school history. They will compete this Sunday (2/16) at the Div I State Championships. Good luck!
Unified Basketball
The student athletes from left to right are Jack Brenock, Ariel Rocha, David Rodriguez, and Leandro De Menezes. All four were first year players on the Unified Basketball team this fall and were great additions to the team.
They all embodied what it means to be a member of the Unified program and are not only very good basketball players, but excellent teammates to the rest of their peers. They were all major contributors for us in key wins this year at Newton North and Natick.
The two gentlemen that did the fundraising for the jackets are Kenny Hiltz on the far left and Mike Fitzgerald on the far right. They are from the American Legion Post 191 in Sudbury.
Child Growth & Development Courses
Students in the Child Growth & Development course are currently experiencing what a parent of a newborn contends with when taking home their new baby for the first time! Students take home the RealityCare Infant Simulator (Baby Think It Over) for an overnight experience.
The baby is programmed to simulate a newborns behavior and needs. Students will need to figure out what their baby needs and provide that care including - diapering, feeding, burping, rocking and soothing. If you see a student with the baby with them, good luck!
FHS Robotics
On Saturday 2/8 all five FHS Robotics teams competed at their last qualifying event of the 24-25 season at the Bancroft School in Worcester. At the end of qualifications, 9421W was in 2nd place, 9421H was 3rd, 9421M was 4th, 9421A was in 9th place and 9421G was 28th (out of 32 teams).
All five teams made it to eliminations, but G and A were knocked out in the round of 16, M and H were knocked out in the Quarter Finals and W was knocked out in the Semifinals.
While they weren’t the champions, 9421W “Wicked Smaht” received the Innovate Award, 9421A “All In” received the Design Award and 9421H “Hot Sauce” received the Excellence Award, the highest award presented in the VEX program. While the team is the recipient of this award, it exemplifies overall excellence in building a high-quality robotics program.
The Design Award qualified 9421A for the State Championship (where they will join 9421H and 9421W who already qualified). In addition, 9421M was awarded a spot at the Championship based on their World Skills score.
Framingham is hosting 64 of the best teams in the state for the Massachusetts High School VEX Robotics State Championship at Walsh Middle School February 22-23.
