GRIMSRUD ELEMENTARY

Dear Grimsrud Families,

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break! Our entire staff has been hard at work preparing for your child's arrival. As we kick off this new school year, you may notice a few new faces. With this new addition of caring and talented individuals merging with our exceptional returning staff, we will continue making sure students are safe, feel connected and respected, and grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

I’m excited to share that our teachers will be utilizing new English Language Arts resources (Wit & Wisdom) this year to support their literacy. We are also thrilled to provide support in Mathematics for our students through the addition of a math interventionist. These adjustments reflect our school's ongoing commitment to providing the best experience and education for our students.

Having strong partnerships between home and school is critical for student success. Please stay connected with us by taking the time to read our school and classroom newsletters, attend family events, follow the PTO facebook page, and interact with your child's red take-home folder and (for upper grades) planner. We will be checking in with you throughout the year for feedback on how we are doing, however please know any questions or ideas to improve are welcomed through ongoing avenues such as PTO meetings, our suggestion boxes, or even a simple email to the office. We appreciate all you do for your child as well as the support and trust you give to us each day to care for them. Don't forget to stop at the PTO booth during open house and discover a role you might serve in the PTO that fits your lifestyle and family's schedule.

As the proud home of the Grizzlies, we look forward to an incredible year ahead.

• FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL for K-5: Wednesday, August 21st

• School starts at 8:35am and ends at 3:05pm. Please drop of and pick up your students as close to those times as possible. *see below regarding big breakfast change

• If your child is sick and will not be attending school, please call the office at 701-323-4150 or email Grimsrud_secretary@bismarckschools.org

• FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR PRESCHOOL/BECEP: Thursday August 22nd

• YOUR INFO: If you have moved or changed personal contact information (address, phone number, email, etc.) please notify the office as soon as possible so you can receive important information from us.

New this year- BREAKFAST AND LUNCH will be FREE for all K-5 students at Grimsrud. Breakfast will now be served in the classroom beginning at 8:35am each day.

*There will be no seconds on breakfast this year.

If your student brings lunch from home and wants to purchase a milk ($0.50 each), please add funds to their account using Linq Connect.

Parent Meals are now $4.15 each. If you plan to eat lunch with your student, please bring cash, exact change only, as we do no accept credit cards.

Although not needed for school lunch or funding support, if you receive free or reduced pricing on extracurricular activities or after school programs, please still complete a Free and Reduced Meal Application for this year.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MORNING ARRIVAL: Please note, there is NO playground supervision until 8:00 a.m. and after school supervision is not provided. Therefore, it is critical that your child arrives after 7:35 a.m. and be picked up by 3:10. Parents are encouraged to arrive as close to the start of school as possible given breakfast isn’t served until 8:35 am this year. If your child arrives between 7:35-8:00 they must report to the gym where they will read a book or visit quietly with friends until 8:00 recess.

This year BPS will be using a new communication tool called BrightArrow. All important messages from Grimsrud and BPS will be sent to you by email or text message.

You will be asked after the 1st message to "opt in" to receiving our text messages. PLEASE OPT IN! Otherwise, you will not receive any further messages by text. If you have not received any text messages from BPS or Grimsrud yet, please text the word "YES" to the number 79041.

If you have any changes to your email or phone number, please call the office.

If you are in need of school supplies or other items as we start this school year please reach out to Mrs. Schmidkunz, School Social Worker. You may contact the school office and ask for her voicemail or contact her via cell phone at (701)934-0826. We have several items on hand or would be happy to problem solve with you how we can help you, your child, and family be successful!
