Tangerine by Edward Bloor--8th grade Book Club book
Adjusting to life in Tangerine isn’t easy for Paul—until he joins the soccer team at his middle school. With the help of his new teammates, Paul begins to discover what lies beneath the surface of his strange new hometown. And he also gains the courage to face up to some secrets his family has been keeping from him for far too long.
In Tangerine, it seems, anything is possible.
Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech--7th grade Book Club book
Thirteen-year-old Salamanca Tree Hiddle, proud of her country roots and the "Indian-ness in her blood," travels from Ohio to Idaho with her eccentric grandparents. Along the way, she tells them of the story of Phoebe Winterbottom, who received mysterious messages, who met a "potential lunatic," and whose mother disappeared.
As Sal entertains her grandparents with Phoebe's outrageous story, her own story begins to unfold—the story of a thirteen-year-old girl whose only wish is to be reunited with her missing mother.

As I'm hiding in the closet, I see my dad's emerald green eyes peeking through the door saying, "Come out it's safe." But that doesn't change the fact that my dad's eyes are blue.

“Attention staff and students”, said Mr. Ervin, “the state of Texas has just announced that all schools are going to be year-round.” The End.

The only person in the room with a worse attitude is the teacher, Mr. Zachary Kermit, who went from an enthusiastic first year teacher to a total wash out. Over the course of the school year, room 117 experiences their fair share of mayhem and destruction, but also some well-deserved redemption!

Starting the year off right!
Getting books into students hands.
The RLA (Reading Language Arts) teachers did a fantastic job of getting books into students hands within the first couple of weeks of school. This is inline with our Wylie ISD focus of providing more time and opportunities for students to READ for enjoyment.
8th grade RLA teachers invited their students to a "Book Tasting." The library was set up to resemble an outdoor cafe and on the menu were BOOKS! Students got a chance to browse a variety of titles and genres. The "meal" was finished off by checking out one or more books from the library.
The 7th grade RLA teachers also took the time to bring each class down to the library for a short library introduction. Their students also left with a book and were encouraged to start READING!
The BOOK FAIR is coming!
Be on the look out! The Scholastic Book Fair will be at McMillan Junior High Monday, Sept. 30 - Friday, Oct. 4th. YAY!!
