Firebird News
Phoenix Elementary School
December 2022
Greetings Phoenix families:
Our Parent Teacher Organization recently coordinated a wonderful Turkey Bingo event. We are so grateful for their preparation and the time they spent organizing this family experience for our school. Thank You to all of our students and families for attending Turkey Bingo. There are numerous businesses in Grand Forks that donated incredible prizes for this event. We would like to thank them for supporting our schools.
Our peer leaders and Positive Behavior Support committee recently led our December assembly. The word of the month for December is fairness. Our students and teachers will work hard in December to promote and understand what fairness means to everyone. Great job peer leaders for providing a fantastic skit for all of our students to enjoy.
On Thursday, December 1st we hosted a teacher interview process for elementary teaching candidates. I received so many compliments from our guests about the incredible response from our teachers and students. Thanks to all of our students and staff for being outstanding representatives of Phoenix Elementary School.
Respectfully,
Kevin Ohnstad
Principal

PARENTS LEAD
Influential Factors
One of the most influential factors during a child’s adolescence is maintaining a strong, open relationship with a parent/guardian. When we each create supportive and nurturing environments, children make better decisions. Though it may not always seem like it, children hear concerns, which is why it’s important that parents/guardians discuss the risks of using alcohol and other drugs. How do you start the conversation? Visit www.parentslead.org.

Music News!
Hello Firebird Families!
2nd Grade’s music program is quickly approaching! The theme this year is “Music Around the World”. The kids have been working hard on all of their songs, and they’re excited to show you what they have learned.
The program will take place in the Phoenix commons on Thursday, December 8th @ 6:30pm. Students should plan to arrive by 6:20 to get ready in the music room. The program should be over by 7:00pm.
Feel free to invite any friends or family to come see our 2nd graders share some wonderful music from all over the globe! We hope you will all be able to join us.
If your student will be unable to attend, please send a message to Mr. Rerick via email: crerick140@mygfschools.org.
Winter Weather!!!
Winter coats, hats, mittens/gloves, snow pants and boots. Classes still go outside, so students should dress in layers so they can enjoy the outdoor recess time! If you need help in getting winter items, please contact Mrs. Edevold.
