New Soul Matters Small Groups
Are you looking for more connection to our UU faith? Want to connect with other members of UUCSJS?
Each month we dig in, explore, learn, and grow in our UU theology through a monthly Soul Matters theme. The theme runs through all areas of ministry from worship, to children's religious education, our family faith at home program, our social media and website, and even our monthly FUUN events! We now have the opportunity to extend this exploration and growth through small group ministry!
What are small groups?
The central goal of a small group is to foster circles of trust and deep listening. They are designed as a companion program to our worship and religious education ministries and an opportunity to explore our congregation’s monthly worship themes in more depth.
What will I have to do?
At the beginning of each month you will receive a packet with questions to ponder, activities to try, and quotes, videos, and articles to inspire you. It's up to you what you choose to do. Some ideas take a little bit of time, some a bit more. All offer you the opportunity for spiritual discernment and growth. At the end of the month, you will meet with your small group for reflection, sharing, and discussion.
What's the commitment?
You will meet with your group once a month for two hours September through June.
Interested? Email Jess at religiouseducation@uucjs.org for more information or to sign up!
Margaret Circle
The Margaret Circle will resume meeting on Thursday, Sept. 8, 1:00 pm. We are skipping the first Thursday of Sept. because it is before Labor Day. Katy Cardwell will be providing the program.
From Building & Grounds
Some of the old CFLs are starting to go in the vestibule. There are too many to switch out to LEDs right now as the LEDs are costly.. A thought is to replace the CFLs in the Sanctuary - only 8 vs. 32 in the vestibule, with new LEDs as there are fewer there and use the CFLs from the Sanctuary to replace the burned out CFLs in the vestibule. However, there are varying styles, brightness levels and wattages of LEDs to choose from. Some of the CFLs in the Sanctuary are going to be temporarily replaced with some of the different styles of LEDs that are available and will be on for viewing / consideration during upcoming Sunday Services. CFLs. are old tech and being phased out. LEDs go with our commitment to the environment and will last a long time. Note that the burned out CFLs are being properly disposed of at the ACUA. Building and grounds welcomes input from the congregation as to which of the new choices would be a good fit.
Also, please be mindful of traveling across the grassy areas surrounding the building and stay out of the woods as the chiggers are fierce this time of year!
Thanks,
Building and Grounds.
From the Kitchen
Coffee Hour seems to be going well after a long pause. Thanks you to Nancy, Mike, Sue and Julie for helping.
Going forward: We used to do 5th Sunday Shared Meal.. In light of still not trying to be too close to each other, a thought has come up to do something new. 5th Sunday B&B. No, not Benedictine & Brandy but Bagels & Baked Goods. On this day we will have bagels, limited toppings of choice, and are asking the bakers among us if they would like to bring something to share, cookies, breads, vegan, vegetarian, you get the idea. The first B&B would be on October 30th. Giving us time to plan..
Please let the Brew Crew know if anyone has special dietary requests for coffee fixings or vittles.
Thanks,
The Brew Crew
