MCA Testing is a very important measure of how our students are progressing. Please be sure your student is prepared for these important tests by having your student get a good nights sleep, have them eat a good breakfast at home or at school and be on time to school each day.

BMS staff appreciate all your support to help insure our students are well prepared for these important tests.

In 1993 Brooklyn Junior High staff put together a time capsule in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the school. It was to be opened 30 years later...which is now, 2023! We will be opening this time capsule during our STEAM Creativity Fair on Thursday, May 4th. What do you think we will find? We hope you will plan to join us at the Creativity Fair on Thursday, May 4th and find out.

Staff and students will also be putting together another time capsule for the BMS staff to open in another 30 years...2053, for Brooklyn Middle STEAM Schools 90th Anniversary. Plans are in the works for what will be placed in this new time capsule. Be with us to see what goes in for our future staff and students.

8th grade students participated in an all school performance from the University of Minnesota Physics Force team. Students got to see the science concepts they have been learning from class in a FUN way!

It's been a busy season of Brown Bag Lunches! We welcomed these three guests below:

1). Forensic Scientist from the BCA. Students learned about a career as a forensic scientist and analyzed their own fingerprints!

2). Clay Artist. Students learned about crystalline glazes and the chemistry behind it. Then students were able apply their own glazes to their pottery!

3). The Paper Clips. Students learned about what it's like to be a musician, and the different types of trombones. The group played a few Motown pieces.

A lot of baking has been going on in FACS and Culinary Arts classes! Beautiful, and tasty creations were created at both these Cupcake Wars and Cake Decorating events!

In Gateway to Technology classes, students coded their own interactive posters using Makey Makey kits.

In advisory classrooms, students researched and worked on choice board activities for the person they have selected for Black History Month. At the end of the project, students did a gallery walk in the classrooms to view each other projects.

Cleaning up an oil spill is a complex task. In this oil spill project, 8th grade students job is to clean up a mini oil spill using materials similar to the ones used by petroleum and chemical engineers. Students are using the engineering design process to create and design their own oil spill clean up tools and then test their abilities to clean up the mess. Then students redesign the tools to make them even better and retest them.

7th and 8th grade choir students experienced the VocalEssence WITNESS Young People's Concert at Orchestra Hall. Brooklyn Middle STEAM school partners with the VocalEssence WITNESS School program, which also provides a VocalEssence Teaching Artist to work with students in the classroom. We will be welcoming the artists into the choir classrooms this spring to sing with students!

Students raised $5034 in their all school fundraiser to help support BMS. Nice job BMS!

There were prizes for the advisory who raised the most money and for students who raised the most. Prizes included free time in the gym during advisory, video game time during advisory, a pizza party with a friend during lunch. Hula Hoop and basket shooting contests for prizes, and the big incentive was staff who volunteered to jump in the swimming pool with their clothes if enough was raised.

Please send a note with your student to school and have them bring this to the office when they arrive. They will then be issued a blue pass to leave class early and will be ready when you arrive. You may also call the main office if you forget to send a note.

When you arrive to pick up your student please enter the vestibule and ring the door bell. You must then provide a photo ID to pick up your student. If you are sending someone else to pick up your student please provide that information in your note or when you call.

We want to be certain that all students are safe and are only released to adults they are approved by you to be with.

CELL PHONES & OTHER PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE TO BE KEPT IN STUDENT LOCKERS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. These often become a distraction during the school day. We want students to be focused on learning when they are at school

COATS/JACKETS , HATS, MITTENS are also to be kept in student lockers during the school day and not worn throughout the school day.

If students have these items on them during the school day they will be asked to put them in their lockers or turned in to the office. We greatly appreciate your help in reminding your student the importance of staying focused on learning while at school.
