Dear Parents,
As we approach Remembrance Day, we wanted to take a moment to share with you our plans for observing this significant day at Divine Mercy. Remembrance Day is a time to honour and remember the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces.
We believe that it is important for our students to understand the significance of this day, learn about its history, and appreciate the importance of peace and freedom. Here is a brief outline of what to expect:
Assembly: On Friday, November 10 at 10:30, our school will hold a special assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day. We will also take a moment of silence to pay our respects to those who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Poppies: Poppies are a symbol of Remembrance Day, and we will be distributing paper poppies for students to wear. Donations for these poppies will go to The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, which supports veterans and their families.
Discussion: Teachers will engage in age-appropriate discussions with students about the significance of Remembrance Day, the importance of peace, and the contributions of veterans to our society. In class, students will have the opportunity to create artwork or write essays or poems about Remembrance Day, which will be displayed throughout the school.
We encourage you to talk to your children about the importance of Remembrance Day, share stories if you have family members who have served, and emphasize the value of peace and understanding in our world. We believe that it's crucial to instill these values in our students.
Together, we can ensure that they grow up with a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made for our freedom and a commitment to peace.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to a meaningful and respectful Remembrance Day observance.
Sincerely,
N. Tome
