EDISON RECEIVES $1.5 MILLION FOR KEY PROJECTS

Senator Patrick Diegnan and Assemblymembers Rob Karabinchak and Sterley Stanley secured $1.5 million in state funding for three key projects in Edison. They include the construction of an indoor recreation facility adjacent to the Edison Jets Pop Warner Complex, expansion of the Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, and improvements to the Edison Memorial Tower. ELECTRIC SCHOOL BUSES CHARGING UP IN NEW JERSEY

More than 800,000 New Jersey students use the state’s 15,000 diesel school buses for transportation. Diesel school buses are known to emit greenhouse gases and carcinogens, which adversely impact climate and health. Law now requires the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to develop and implement an electric school bus program. Read more

EAST BRUNSWICK BREAKS ICE ON SKATING RINK

East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen provided some refreshing news on a scorching summer afternoon, announcing the township will receive $3 million in state funding toward the construction of a municipal-owned ice skating rink. NORTHEAST CORRIDOR LINE BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

Commuters in New Jersey’s 18th Legislative District and across the state who ride NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak along the Northeast Corridor line will benefit from the construction of a new railroad bridge. Senator Patrick Diegnan, who chairs the Senate Transportation committee, joined U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for a Portal North Bridge groundbreaking ceremony in Kearny last month. COVID-19 FRONTLINE AND HEALTHCARE WORKER MEMORIAL

Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation establishing a commission to create a memorial for frontline and healthcare workers who valiantly fought and risked their lives battling the coronavirus. The legislation, which Senator Patrick Diegnan authored, requires the commission to select a suitable design and location for the memorial, and establishes a non-lapsing fund to serve as a repository for any donations or appropriations provided for the memorial’s design, construction, and maintenance. In Middlesex County, 1 in 8 residents are food insecure. The outstanding partnership between REPLENISH and Feeding Middlesex County resulted in the distribution of 4.7 million pounds of food county-wide last year alone. Read more
