Mustang News - January 20th, 2023
From The Principal
This week included so many powerful moments of celebration: NHS Induction, Senior Night for the Swim & Dive team, students earning “Best of SNO” Awards in Journalism, etc. I was incredibly struck by the beauty of students speaking publicly about one another’s strengths, and the way that our community is better because of the many individuals who comprise it. Next week, we are looking forward to hosting our Welcome Night for Incoming Students on Wednesday, 1/25 from 5:30-6:30 pm in the MSHS Commons! Please share this information with any current 8th grade families and/or families who are considering Manitou. Have a warm and wonderful weekend! SAT with Essay - Information for 11th Graders
Dear 11th Grade Students and Families,
When taking the Colorado School Day SAT this spring, 11th grade students will have the option of taking the SAT with the essay. Students are pre-registered for the SAT (no essay) and must add it to their registration in order to participate in this additional, optional test. Adding the essay to their SAT registration is a student choice.
The essay registration window is Jan. 17 – Feb. 16, 2023. This will be the only opportunity for students who wish to take the optional essay to add it to their April school day test registration. Students may add the essay to their registration through their online College Board account or by calling the College Board at 866-917-9030. Schools will not receive extra essay materials for test day changes, therefore please be sure students register during the window.
Please be aware of the following information regarding the essay component of the test:
1. The SAT Essay is scored separately from the SAT. A student’s score on the essay will not improve or reduce their score on the SAT.
2. The SAT with essay will take approximately one hour longer than the SAT without essay. The SAT with essay is completed after the SAT multiple choice section and will take appx 1 hour longer than the regularly scheduled SAT testing day.
3. The optional essay is only offered as part of the 11th grade SAT. There is no essay option for the PSAT 8/9 for 9th graders or the PSAT 10 for 10th graders.
If you need support creating a College Board account, please follow this link.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this option, please contact Jessie Nunley at jnunley@mssd14.org.
Attendance Matters!
Showing up to school dramatically impacts a student’s academic success. Families play a crucial role in ensuring that a student gets to school safely and on time daily. We understand that absences are unavoidable, such as illness or medical appointments. Please call the attendance line if your child will be missing school.
Attendance line - Please call in advance (or as early as possible) if your child is absent from school, will be late, or will be leaving for an appointment. Thank you!
