This is the first week of the 2nd quarter. Remember your GPA is an average of all 4 quarters, so if your first quarter wasn't what you wanted, let's work to make that up for 2nd quarter.

We are starting playoff season for fall sports which means in-season athletes and staff all have to pay to enter. Come out and support our athletes this week. Make sure to check the weather to dress appropriately. Our Boy's Soccer team won in round 1 on Friday and the second round is Tuesday. Our Field Hockey team has its first playoff game on Monday. Good luck!

Last, Thursday we had our first Senior meeting of the school year! Jostens was here and passed out order packets to the entire class. On Thursday, November 3rd Jostens will be in the cafeteria taking orders for graduation materials rings, caps, gowns, and other graduation materials. If you would like more information please ask your senior for the packet they received last week or click here to order online.

The first day for winter sports is Tuesday, November 15th, so click here to registration is now! All athletes need on sports physical per year. If you haven't had yours this year click here for the form your doctor will need to fill out.

Student ID cards for everyone that took pictures have come in and been delivered. At this point, if you do not have an id card plan to take a picture on retake day.

It will speed up the lunch lines if you have your id out and scan the barcode vs punching in your lunch number. You will also be able required to scan your ID in the Media Center.

The last day for senior retakes is November 4, 2022. Students must be photographed in a tuxedo or drape to be included in the yearbook. Seniors who still need to have their photo taken need to make an appointment by clicking here.

AP Registration Deadline is approaching. Students must submit payments to Ms. Hickey at the School Bank by November 1st. Keep in mind if you receive Free or Reduced meals and have completed the meal form your test fee is waived. This means if the test is free, you should take the test. It only helps and can't hurt you in any way. Please review the following letter for more information.

Makeup picture day is set for November 18th for underclassmen. All staff and students who did not get their picture taken will be able to on that day. As long as the machine is not broken again they will receive their ID when they take their picture.

Are you interested in taking the ASVAB to see what career you qualify for in the Armed Services? We are offering the ASVAB on Wednesday, November 2nd during school. If you would like to sign up or learn more information contact Mrs. Waddell at tdwaddell@smcps.org or stop into the College and Career Center.

The GMHS Writing Center is an in-school resource available every day during both Green and Gold lunches in Room C-15. Students can get support on new assignments, revisions, personal writing, college application essays, and more!

Schoology New Parent/Guardian Provisioning: New Schoology parent/guardian accounts will be created in the coming weeks. We hope to have accounts created and parents/guardians connected to their students in Schoology by Friday, September 2nd. Continue to use Schoology for your updates along with your SMOREs/School Messenger. Please share this specific message with your school community through School Messenger. Parents that have difficulty accessing their pre-existing accounts should contact schoology@smcps.org and include the student name and ID number for troubleshooting.

Did you know that even just a few minutes on a cell phone texting, checking social media, etc adds up over the course of a school day? Students, who use their devices for just 5 minutes each period, lose nearly 1 period of instructional time per day (35 minutes of class). Over the course of 1 week, those 5 minutes per class adds up to nearly 4 missed periods! Personal devices can be a HUGE distraction for students. Please start this year off right, by keeping personal devices away in your bookbag or at a charging station if your teacher has one available. There is a direct connection to phone usage during the school day to grades. Encourage your student/s to only use their phone during lunch, between classes, or when approved by a teacher.

Lighthouse Productions will be holding auditions for their spring musical, Grease, on November 7th and 9th!

If you would like to be a part of the performance, but do not want to be on stage contact Mrs. Wilhite about joining the stage crew. You can help build sets, and support lighting or sound, one of the other many roles needed to make a production happen.
