Week of November 20, 2023
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Dear River Hill Families,
This is a short week with Thanksgiving break. I hope you had an opportunity to visit classes last week during American Education Week. You do not need a special week to visit your child’s classes. Just coordinate with the teacher and parents are more than welcome to visit anytime.
Tomorrow will mark the first day of parent conferences. There will be maps in the front office should you need them to navigate the building. We are looking forward to seeing you in the building and teachers are ready to discuss how they can partner with you for your child’s success.
I had the pleasure of attending River Hill’s first ever Feeder Choral Concert. The choirs from Clarksville Middle, Lime Kiln Middle and River Hill all performed selections for the audience. The finale involved having all three choirs on the stage to sing together. It was truly a great experience and kudos to Ms. Kitchelt for coordinating the event. It was a huge success.
Friday marked the official notification of those students to be inducted into the River Hill National Honor Society. Students were recognized during their lunch shift where they were given a certificate and a carnation. The nearly 200 students recognized will be officially inducted in an evening ceremony next week. Congratulations to all of our NHS scholars!
Yesterday evening I had the opportunity to attend the Black Leadership Union’s (BLU) Friendsgiving celebration. It was an evening of games, music, food, and bonding for both students and parents. The feast was impressive as it was certainly preparation for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Families supplied a turkey and all the traditional sides. Thank you again to the BLU for inviting me. I truly enjoyed getting to meet and connect with familles.

Lastly, Thanksgiving is this week. It is a time to be thankful, a time to remember and embrace those who enrich our lives. As we gather around our tables with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you in our wonderful school community. This season of gratitude provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the blessings we have and the strength that comes from unity. Our school is not just a place of learning; it is a vibrant community where students, parents, teachers, and staff come together to create a nurturing and enriching environment.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, let us take a moment to cherish the bonds that connect us, the accomplishments that make us proud, and the shared vision of a thriving educational community. May this season be filled with warmth, joy, and the company of loved ones.
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

RHHS G/T Research Program Information Session
December 7, 2023 on GoogleMeet ~ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
The RHHS GT Research program invites you to join us for a Parent Information Night. Current students will share information about the course curriculum for the two classes that make up the Gifted and Talented Research Program: Independent Research and Intern/Mentor. Hosted by Ms. Janine Sharbaugh, our GT Research teacher, the session will cover the program’s research tasks and objectives, the various opportunities for off-site learning and internships, and the incredible contributions to our world made by former students in the program.
In order to attend this GoogleMeet, you must register using this form.
Please email Ms. Sharbaugh with any questions: Janine_Sharbaugh@hcpss.org
Students can take two courses in the GT Research program:
Independent Research: students self-select topics, design thesis statements, cultivate sources, collect and interpret original data, and share the conclusions in a paper, presentation, and product. The application opens on December 1 on the RHHS website. It's due on January 26, 2024.
Intern/Mentor - for upperclassmen only: students pair the research course curriculum (students self-select topics, design thesis statements, cultivate sources, collect and interpret original data, and share the conclusions in a paper, presentation, and product) with an internship which offers a chance to work side-by-side with a professional in the field. The application opens on December 1 on the RHHS website. It's due on January 26, 2024.

Class of 2024 Information
Senior Parents - Now is the time to start getting ready to complete the FAFSA. The first step is to request a FAFSA ID for you and your senior!
Visit
Create Account | Federal Student Aid to request your FAFSA ID now. Additionally, HCPSS and College Aid Pro are partnering to offer an evening on Financial Aid and Scholarships. Families will learn what financial aid is, where you can find scholarships, how you can access discounts even if you don't qualify, FAFSA Do's and Don'ts, business and homeowners do's and don'ts, and how to navigate as a divorced family.
***FAFSA underwent a major overhaul for the 2024-2025 school year with the FAFSA Simplification Act. The workshop will highlight all of these changes! We recommend families in grades 9-12 attend as it is never too early to start learning how financial aid works. Session will be recorded and posted on our March2Future document.
