Dixie Magnet Elementary
Where the impossible comes true
Principal Update
I hope that you and your family are enjoying the beautiful sunshine this weekend. At Dixie we had a busy week of learning. Our Students of the Month enjoyed breakfast together on Monday morning. We discussed compassion and ways they've shown compassion for others throughout Dixie. We enjoyed seeing many of our students' "Best Buddies" on Thursday for our monthly breakfast. On Friday we celebrated the 100th day of school by counting all different ways to 100, making fun crafts to show students' understanding of the number 100, and ate yummy snacks. Our 4th and 5th graders had a fun house meeting at William Wells Brown. It was amazing to watch our house leaders work with the house leaders from WWB. They led the separate house meetings and helped plan and organize the house celebration. New friendships were made and we are working on ways to continue this new partnership!
This coming week Dixie is hosting 2 days of professional learning for another central kentucky elementary school. They're interested in learning more about how our students learn through PBL. Our students will lead these educators through their learning and give a tour of the building. We look forward to sharing with others the innovation that we have implemented and hoping that other students can benefit! Dixie students are making a positive impact on our world!
We look forward to a week of learning and growing together this week. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to reach our full potential and to provide opportunities for our students to be a positive force in our changing world!
Sincerely,
Cynthia Bruno, Principal

Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) Information
During the 2023-24 school year, Fayette County Public Schools will use Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) instead of school closings whenever feasible. NTI will allow students to continue learning when weather conditions make it unsafe to attend school in person. An NTI weather day counts as a school day since students participate in learning at home. With NTI, there is no need to make up or add a day to the academic calendar.
This winter students will be bringing their chromebooks home in case an NTI day is called. Students who cannot complete their work on an NTI weather day because of power outages, internet connectivity, or other issues will have three school days after returning to school to complete and submit missed assignments.
Please visit www.fcps.net/weather for additional details about the district’s inclement weather procedures.
Let our teachers and staff know they ROCK!
