• Nebraska State Fair entry is open! All youth participating in a 4-H contest or exhibiting 4-H livestock or dogs must complete the entry process by Thursday, August 10, at 8:00 p.m. CST. Please review all eligibility, entry limits, and instructions available for livestock exhibitors, dog exhibitors, and contest participants at 4h.unl.edu/state-fair before entering. : We are excited to offer two new 4-H contests at the 2023 Nebraska State Fair! The 4-H Beef Fitting and 4-H Goat Fitting Contests will be held on Saturday, August 26, at 7:00 pm. CST. The contests are open to 4-H exhibitors with eligible 4-H livestock entries at the 2023 Nebraska State Fair. Rules and regulations are available at 4h.unl.edu/sf-fitting. Let us know if you’re interested in registering a team! Teams must be registered by Thursday, August 10 at 8:00 p.m. CST.

Congratulations! Please have all items selected for state fair to the office by noon on Tuesday, August 22nd. Please find the list below. If you qualified in horticulture or floriculture you do not need to bring the specific item you qualified with it can be any vegetable, herb, or flower and you are allowed five exhibits. Please check with the office to see if we will be able to transport large items. Items will be available for pickup Wednesday September 6th 8:30-4:30.

Items that will be going to State Fair must be brought to the Extension Office by 12 pm on Tuesday, August 22. Due to limited transportation space, larger items may need to be delivered to Grand Island by the exhibitor. If you have large items, contact the Extension Office to make arrangements and explore delivery options. Items going to the State Fair will return home on Wednesday, September 6 and should be picked up as soon as possible following the return.

If you believe you used the scientific method in one of your 4-H static projects, consider applying for the Premier 4-H Science Award. All static exhibits which qualify for the Nebraska State Fair are able to apply for Premier 4-H Science Award. All applicants will be recognized for their use of science within their project area and will be eligible for a Premier 4-H Science Top exhibitor awards which includes a cash award sponsored by the Nebraska 4-H Foundation.

How can you apply? Identify which exhibit you will enter in the Premier 4-H Science Award. Simply, complete the Premier 4-H Science Award Application, found online at https://go.unl.edu/nsfpremierscienceapp. Deadline is Monday, August 21 at 12:00PM CT.

• The Nebraska State Fair is thrilled to host the 1st annual 4-H Day at the Nebraska State Fair. 4-H Day will be Sunday, August 27th. To celebrate our 4-H members statewide we are offering a discounted admission that day that is only for bonafide 4-H members.

• This is only intended for 4-H members, family members including parents will need to purchase regular admission tickets. This is not just for exhibitors, but for any 4-H member.

Back by popular demand! Our 4-H static exhibitor families will be able to order discount passes directly from the Nebraska State Fair! Orders can be placed using the following link and password. Please remember the opportunity to order these discounted tickets is for static exhibitors and their families only. The misuse of this resource may eliminate this opportunity in the future, so please encourage your families not to share this link. Note – We can track who ordered tickets and match it with their 4-H participation. There is a limit of 10 tickets per exhibitor. Discount tickets will not be available through the county offices. Note – These tickets will need to be accessible on your phone or printed prior to coming to the Nebraska State Fair. There is no ticket pickup window.

Note – All livestock exhibitors and in-person event exhibitors (chicken BBQ, fashion show, ID contests, and robotics showcase) will still be able to order discounted tickets when they enter in ShoWorks for State Fair. This process has not changed for those exhibitors coming to the fair.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE STATE COMPETITION INFORMATION:

• The 2023 State Make It With Wool Contest will be November 18 at Adams County Extension Office in Hastings, NE
• Nebraska Make It With Wool (MIWW) information (entry form and brochure) is located on this website: https://extension.unl.edu/statewide/dawson/
• All entries are due October 15, 2023, because of the national wool testing requirements.
• Age is determined by January 1, 2023 (national rule).
• All contestants must be a resident of Nebraska.
• The state entry fee is $15, plus the national entry fee is $12.
• In addition to the National and State entry fees there is a $7 wool testing fee per each fabric swatch and/or 36 inch length of each yarn. Fabrics/yarns must test at least 60% wool fiber, a National MIWW requirement.
• The entry form has been enlarged and will be printed on 8.5 X 11 inch size paper. Contestants will need to print copies of the entry form.
• The size of the wool sample(s) required for national entry is a different size than the state sample (see brochure).
• Entries are mailed to Andrea Nisley, PO Box 757, Lexington NE 68850-0757 (see brochure).
• Karen Weight is the new National Make It With Wool Director.

The Nuckolls County 4-H Council will hold a fair review meeting Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 7:30 pm at the Nuckolls County Fairgrounds in the commercial building.

September 6th @ 7pm Thayer County Fairgrounds.
