Summer Garden Care
We are looking for families that want to spend one week caring for our school garden this summer. We love returning to a school garden that is bursting with color and ready for students to explore. During your week of care, the garden will need to be watered, lightly weeded, and harvested. The more families harvest in the summer, the more prolific our garden is when students return. Some families use their week as an excuse to have a picnic in the garden, complete a fun scavenger hunt or go on a bug hunt. If you're interested, please sign-up here: Garden Care 2025 Summer

Annual Notice for Oregon’s Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey
The Oregon Department of Education has launched a new annual survey that all students in grades 3-11 will take this school year. The purpose of the SEED survey is to provide the state feedback and input to improve education experiences for all students. Information will help ODE to develop appropriate resources and supports for districts in Oregon, and better target those resources where they are most needed.
Students in grades 3-11 will take the SEED survey before the end of the school year. Parent-guardians can opt their student out of the SEED survey if they wish to do so by filling out the opt out form (English/Spanish) or by contacting the school office
Summer Cultural Performance Opportunity
Bolton students have been invited by the Oregon Chinese Coalition to perform at the annual Chinese Cultural Festival on August 2nd, 2025 at Pioneer Square. All students K-5th grade at Bolton are welcome to sign up for FREE, regardless of whether they are in the Mandarin immersion program. Sign ups will be based on first-come first serve, and we will start a wait list if more than 20 students are interested.
Performance will be a 3 minute skit with some speaking and singing parts in both Chinese and English. Knowledge of the Chinese language is not required, but interest in Chinese culture would be very helpful! The performance will happen sometime between 11am - 6pm on August 2nd. We will also have 2 rehearsals during the summer, the weekend of July 19th and July 26th. We will be using the Bolton Primary School gym for rehearsals.
The Bolton PTA will provide funding for costumes for students.

YMCA After School Care
Dear Families,
With a focus on safety, health, social growth and academic enhancement, YMCA school enrichment programs serve students in kindergarten through middle school. Children at the YMCA explore and develop their interests and talents through a wide range of activities.
Children who participate in our school enrichment programs make friends, learn new skills and do their homework in a supportive and learning atmosphere. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves. The Y supports the youth of today and helps them build confidence for the future.
The YMCA accepts ERDC and other subsidies.
Registration opens on May 20th at 7:00am. All registrations take place through our website.

West Linn - Wilsonville School Foundation
The WLWV Foundation Launch Committee is launching a West Linn-Wilsonville School Foundation to directly fund educator positions in the coming years. Our district faces a $15 million budget reduction next year, and your involvement is crucial in ensuring our students continue to receive the best education possible.
We are seeking applicants who are interested in joining our Board of Directors (roles and responsibilities). If you're interested in joining the board of the new foundation, please fill out our interest form HERE.
If you are interested in pledging financial support for the foundation once the foundation begins to accept donations, please do so HERE.
Together, we can make a meaningful impact!
Sincerely,
WLWV Foundation Launch Committee

Morning Arrival
Our morning drop-off routine has had a few close calls with accidents recently and I'd like to make a few recommendations for families who are driving to school.
The biggest safety concern is when families park in the red area on the map below and then walk across the street. This impacts the flow of our drop-off location and often leads to students walking in between cars.
If you do not need to walk your child to the entrance, please consider using the car drop-off location. We have staff available until 7:55 to help students safely get out of cars and into the building.
If your child needs additional time to get out of the car or if you prefer to walk them to an entrance, please use one of the green areas on the map below.
Dogs on Campus
Bolton Families,
As much as I love dogs, I ask that you please keep your pets away from students during arrival and dismissal. If you are bringing them, please wait for your child on the opposite side of the street from the building. Thank you.
PTA Website
Please visit the Bolton PTA website to see a list of upcoming events, shop for Bolton spirit wear, or to see a list of our staff's favorite things.
Student Cellphones and Smart watches
Student use of electronic devices at Bolton has increased, so I want to inform families about the district's policy regarding their use during the school day.
The policy states that a “personal electronic device” is a device that is capable of electronically communicating, sending, receiving, storing, recording, reproducing and/or displaying information and data. This includes smart watches.
Student cell phones should be off and away during the school day. Students wearing smart watches can use them as a watch during the day, but they should not be sending or receiving messages.
In the event the device becomes a distraction, the student will be reminded about the rule. If it continues to be a distraction, I will ask the student to put the device away and contact their family. If the problem continues, I will keep it in the office and have a guardian pick it up.
If you need to communicate something to your child during the day, please email their teacher or let the office know.
Primary School Health Lessons
All K-5 students will participate in a weekly half-hour health lesson taught by our Health Teacher, Inga Rosenau, or our Wellness Teacher, Adrienne Sampson. Primary level health education focuses on supporting a healthy lifestyle and focuses mainly on topics such as healthy eating, movement/exercise and avoiding illness.
All primary schools will continue to use The Great Body Shop instructional materials, which are the District's adopted health materials. You can learn more about The Great Body Shop on this website. In addition to supporting health education, The Great Body Shop materials also provide opportunities for developing non-fiction reading skills, which are included in the Science and Language Arts Education Standards for K-5 grade levels. Please note we will only teach the core lessons and not the Optional Lessons, the Home Connection, Portfolio or Reinforcement Activities, or using the assessments.
Your child will receive a personal copy of The Great Body Shop Student Issue for all health units. The topics for each grade are listed at the end of this letter and you can learn more about the topics on The Great Body Shop website. Each monthly unit contains information to help your child understand their own body, the way it works, and the best ways to keep it healthy and safe. The teacher will discuss each monthly unit of The Great Body Shop in depth with students and guide them in developmentally appropriate, skill based activities to reinforce the lessons contained in each unit.
At the end of each unit, your child will bring home the Student Issue, which includes a Family Bulletin. The Family Bulletin will provide you with additional information and resources so that you can reinforce student learning at home if you wish to do so.
If you have any questions or would like to preview the materials, please let me know.
