Let's Talk TPS
District Communication - March 30, 2022
TPS Families -
We made it through what each year feels like the longest month - March! Spring break, despite our cold temperatures now, is just a little over a week away and the school year always seems to fly by from there.
I would like to give a shout out to our Middle School Physical Education team and all of our TMS students who used their time on Friday to walk and raise funds for Alzheimer's Awareness. The students surpassed their goal of $6000, raising nearly $7300! What a great showing for a great cause.
Please be sure to read the newsletter for a host of activities, including our Middle School show this weekend and High School show on April 28th - 30th, the Bergen County Education Job Fair this weekend, our junior college night, and a host of accolades and recognitions bestowed upon our talented staff and students. There are too many to include here, so be sure to follow us on social media @TenaflySchools to share in the wonderful news and activities going on districtwide. It is all of these things that make Tenafly Public Schools the wonderful place it is.
Yours in Education,
Shauna C. DeMarco
Superintendent Tenafly Public Schools

TMS ELL Bilingual Conversation Club and Mentoring Program
For more than three months, anyone walking the TMS hallways after school by room 214 has been greeted with laughter and conversation. Why? It's the TMS ELL Conversation Club! A relaxed, safe space for ELL students to engage in conversation games, activities, debates, and presentations. More than a dozen English Language Learners from four different home language backgrounds have enjoyed this opportunity to develop their conversational English skills.
New this year
Last spring, now THS senior and recently named valedictorian Chaeyoung Lee approached Tenafly ELL Lead Teacher and Conversation Club advisor Ms. Kathryn Suter about starting a bilingual mentoring program between THS and TMS. The two decided to incorporate the mentoring into the existing Conversation Club, and this year, five bilingual THS students joined the Conversation Club to serve as mentors and activity facilitators!
Special thanks to THS students Hannah Bonilla, Nuree Han, Helen Hui, Chaeyoung Lee, and Jingyu Lee for giving their time to mentor our TMS ELLs each Thursday afternoon this winter. Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Reminder: Playgrounds Reserved for S.A.C.C.
A gentle reminder that TPS playgrounds will close between 3:45-5:30pm for S.A.C.C. (School Age Child Care) program use. Playgrounds will remain open to all from 3:00-3:45pm to allow for a smooth transition from school to non-school hours, but we ask that playgrounds not be used during the time that S.A.C.C. is in session. New signage is displayed at all playgrounds to remind our community of this change. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
