Happy New Year, Curtis Families!
We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and new year! We have picked right back up where we left off and are so happy to see kids back with us at school! Here are a few reminders for this semester:
- Students’ phones are to be kept in their backpacks during the day. Students using their phones without permission will have their phones collected and after the first time, parents will have to come pick them up. More times than not, students getting messages are from their parents. We know plans for afternoon pick up change and other information needs to be shared with kids, but please make sure you send those messages at or after 3:30.
- If you arrive to school after 8:15, it is highly likely that your child will not make it all the way to their classroom before the tardy bell at 8:20. If you are dropping off after 8:15 please drop students at the front door so they can get in and get a late pass for class.
- If you are allowing your students to come to after school events such as basketball games, we ask that students are picked up in a timely manner. We always ask students to call or text parents at the half time of the last game so you have time to get to the school to pick them up when the games end. Also, if students leave campus to go to Celebration Park, with your permission, they are not allowed back into games or back on campus and need to be picked up from the park. We cannot monitor students coming and going and if you allow them to go to the park, they are no longer under our supervision at school. We are reviewing these expectations with students as well, but wanted parents to know.
In other news, we have MAP testing this week on Tuesday, Jan 10 and Wednesday, Jan 11 so please make sure your child brings their charged Chromebook to school both days for testing. MAP testing gives us an indication of the growth your child has made so far in the year and what work we need to continue to do with them to make sure they reach their goals. We expect students to try their best, but it is not something to stress about or study for. Students will have alternate lunch times on these two testing days, so lunch drop offs will not be accepted.
Class of 2027 received information about the Lowery incoming freshman meetings this week. We encourage everyone to attend either the Curtis MS night, or one of the other nights to get the important information about courses for next year. Those meetings are from 6-8 PM on Jan 10, 11 or 12. You can attend any night. Lowery will be going over information with students here at school as well to help them get started on choosing classes for next year. Tracks teachers have already been talking with students and brainstorming what they might be interested in as well. Courses selection will be due on January 30 for incoming freshman for the 23-24 school year.
Jan 16 is a student and staff holiday.
Love Week – It is the 42nd annual Love Week from 2/13- 2/17. Please take a look at the events scheduled for these weeks and plan to participate in any way you can!
