NYES-December 2022

Hi everyone! I hope you all are having a great day! As we began a new month, I wanted to highlight a few things we have going on here at the elementary. A big highlight of the elementary is we started our recycling program. A big thanks to Mrs. Tricia Ryan and Brian McDonald for all their support. It gets collected by our high school students every Thursday. Students and staff have really enjoyed this program so far.

It is flu season right now and NYES has had many cases of it and several other viruses. Please make sure your child is fever free and symptom free (diarrhea and vomiting) for 24 hours before returning to school. Our custodial staff are doing their best to wipe down high touch areas and we are encouraging hand washing but if you could help us by keeping your kids home if they are vomiting, have diarrhea or a fever. We appreciate your help!

Third graders will soon be receiving the results of the Fall OST ELA test. We will share those results when we have them. As of right now, students who do not meet the required score will face retention in 3rd grade. There are alternative pathways to achieve the promotion score and we will be talking with students and families individually about those pathways.

Our Character Strong trait that NYES is working on this month is Empathy. On Mondays, students will be learning about what empathy is and how it looks in their everyday life.

Thursday, December 8th-Kindergarten Field Trip to Santa Train in Nelsonville

Sunday, December 11th-5th Grade Band Concert 2:00PM

Thursday, December 15th-K/1 Christmas Concert 6:00PM or 7:00PM (Times Vary by Homeroom)

Monday, December 19th-5th Grade Choir 6:00PM

Thursday, December 22nd-Last Day of the Nine Weeks (2 Hour Early Release)
